The media is a highly persuasive and impactful source for numerous individuals. News travels fast especially in the internet. Popular toys have been affected by the media because if ratings are exceptional on the toy, more people are intrigued to purchase it. On the other hand, if a toy is unsatisfactory people will be less inclined to buy it. The article “Asleep at the switch? ‘Force Awakens’ heroine missing from toy line” published by the Associated Press explains why merchandisers take time to release certain products and how social media responds to the “missing” toy. The Associated Press has informed readers that Rey’s toy was not released because key details in the new Star Wars movie would’ve been revealed. Rey, a main character in the new Stars Wars movie, did not have a toy released along with the other Star Wars heroes. “A social media firestorm erupted over the lack of Rey in a new ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Monopoly game” (Associated Press). Initially, Disney did not put Rey as a character in the game, but they will soon. …show more content…
Major companies unleash toys that are vague to various people, but other people know the characters extensively are are ready to purchase the item(s). The media has allowed people to purchase exclusive toys before they are even released! “Some of these exclusives will wind right back up in the market post-convention, appearing in eBay listings before the event clears the convention center”(Lauren Orsini). Countless men and woman would like to purchase items before they are even in stock, and many people wait to buy these items on the media. The media compels individuals to buy toys that are “special” and “unique” so they may get the toy before a certain amount of other people.     Everyone has a toy they remember most. Some remember the first Barbie doll they received for their birthday, others remember the racecar they drove down the driveway, but the toy I remember most was a small plastic lizard named Godzilla. To me, Godzilla was never small. It was the giant dinosaur of doom. It threatened all the other toys and broke down whatever stood in its way. What was really important was that small plastic lizard could be anything that I could make it out to be. I had many toys like Godzilla; they didn’t have special features but were still fun to play with. Somewhere, my tastes changed and I found myself playing with more and more complex toys until I finally reached a new category: video games. In my opinion, toys are now different.
