UCD HOCKEY CLUB FUNDRAISING INITIATIVE
'Puck-A-Thon: 24 Hours of UC Denver Hockey'
I. Situation:
The University of Colorado, Denver Hockey Club is the first club sports team on the Denver Campus. The team was granted club status by the UCD Office of Student Life. The 2010-2011 Season marked the inaugural season for the ice hockey team who ended with a respectable record of 6-18, playing club teams from Colorado as well as out of state schools. The club is a self-funded and non-scholarship team so players carry the cost of playing. Players had to pay about $1,200 for their first

We will believe this will meet the objectives listed below because we will be doing something unique that will draw attention to the UCD Club Hockey team while also providing back to the community. The proposed event, theoretically titled 'Puck-A-Thon: 24 Hours of UC Denver Hockey' will take place at a local hockey rink. The team will play a single game of hockey of 24 hours. Players will be allowed to take shifts to avoid extreme exhaustion, but there will always be at least 4 members of the team on the ice at a time. We will have smaller events on the UCD campus leading up to this where friends, family, students, faculty, and fans can sponsor a player for 'Puck-A-Thon.' The UCD Hockey Team will keep half of the money collected, while the other half will be donated to an undetermined charity. We also will invite others who want to participate in 'Puck-A-Thon' to join in the game. To play, a donation will be mandatory with a minimum fee attached. Players are encouraged to bring their own equipment, however some equipment will be available on a first come, first serve basis. We are attempting to also obtain sponsorship of the event from local businesses. The businesses will be able to put up their advertising during our events, in exchange for donated prizes that we will be able to give away to those who sponsor the players. Categories will be set up where players will win awards …show more content…
For the “Puck-A-Thon” there are issues regarding safety of individuals, timing of the games, and management of donations. There are also issues regarding accessibility, attendance, and personal dynamics. Safety issues include injury to players, participants, and staff. If someone were to get injured, there would be the issue of if there will be 24 hour medical staff available. In terms of injuries waivers would be necessary to make sure that the hockey team does not become liable for injuries accrued during the games. Location and availability are the other potential issues with this event. It would need to be confirmed that the hockey rink would be available for a designated 24-hour period. To keep the event and awards to be handed out fair, there will need to be a team of un-bias judges or staff able to analyze the participants and players fairly. As far as money management issues go, someone would need to be keeping track of donations and collections as to not double charge or overcharge someone. The text-donation hotline would need to be reliable and set up through providers as to not overcharge or mislead participants in donating. The final issue that could take place would be the webcast. There would need to be someone monitoring the camera and/or webcast so as to not have blackouts or slow periods. If at periods throughout the event there were no one on the ice, the broadcast would need to be

was also accelerated by outside problems such as the lockout and bad public reputation of the NHL. In 2004, when the NHL joined in as the major sponsor, Play On! began to attached outside many other outside sponsors and experienced great success. However, as soon as lockout began, the other sponsors left and the organization found itself struggling yet again. This situation would have been avoided with some efficient management and marketing skills. After the successful 2004 tournament, Hill should have captivated on the momentum and begin to reach out to other sponsors. Also, news of a possible lookout had been spreading in 2003 when the NHL and the Player’s Association failed to reach an agreement on revenue sharing. Therefore, Hill should at least acknowledge the risk of a lockout and reached to other sponsors after the initial success instead of scrambling and reaching out to TSN at the last moment. During the 2005 season, he should have scaled back his operation to only one or two tournament instead of five in order to save resources and money. Furthermore, instead of simply following Warrington’s suggestion with the tax structure, he would have potentially saved tens of thousands of dollar if he had consulted outside…

An incredible history follows the Olympic Games to Vancouver, British Columbia for the 2010 winter Olympics. The modern games began in 1896 with 241 athletes from 14 nations and have grown to 10,500 participants representing 204 countries during the 2008 summer Olympics in Beijing, China (www.olympic.org). The event has brought nations together through athletes who have inspired the world through their achievements, vigor and humility. The winter games tend to be smaller in scale than its summer counterpart, with an expected 5,500 Olympic and 1,350 Paralympics athletes from 80 or more countries (tourismvancouver.com), but this size still presents extreme challenges to the host city during the time leading up to the games. The expected cost of $ 1.3 billion for hosting this global event has been a major focus of the British Columbia government since Vancouver 's winning bid on July, 2 2003. With this enormous price tag, the 2010 Olympics will have both immediate and long term impacts on citizens of Vancouver and of all British Columbia; from a social justice standpoint, there are several factors that will influence whether the upcoming games can be called successful.…

In the Integris Health System, meetings are held on a very frequent basis. Some days as a director, I go home thinking that I have accomplished absolutely nothing but going from meeting to meeting and doing nothing but getting the meeting checked off of my scheduling assistant on my computer. There are days when I begin to wonder if administration schedules meetings to talk about having meetings. It can be a vicious circle that can give anyone a horrible headache.…

The thrill of scoring a winning goal, the sound of skates being sharpened. The fresh tape job you put on your stick before every game. The moments you share with your teammates that will last a life time. The road trips, games on back to back nights and the lack of sleep due to games finishing late. The crunch noise your body makes when you hit the boards leading to sometimes broken ribs, separated shoulders, concussions and broken legs. Nothing can compare to scoring a game winning goal to a hockey player is like winning the lottery. Players go through tough practices skating until they feel like puking, the preparation done before every one of the 82 games played just to try and salvage enough points to make it into the playoffs. Then you have to go through as many as 28 more terrific grueling games. In the end it all becomes worth it because two lucky teams get a chance to compete for one of the…

Hockey in the United States is more of a North Eastern sport, due to the cold weathers and icy ponds, but hockey fans exist everywhere. A big trend in the hockey community is how fans are born. For me, I followed in my fathers and older brothers footsteps and became a hockey player. It just runs in your family. I guess being a hockey fan is sort of a legacy. I know the typical idea of a hockey fan is a guy representing his favorite jersey, holding a beer, and screaming at the top of his lungs. But, no one truly knows a hockey fan unless you are one yourself. We all share the same goals and passions. It all comes down to the love of the game, and even if two teams are complete rivals, they all share that passion.…

Recently a fifteen year old girl named Abigail Hernandez has gone missing from her North Conway home in New Hampshire. Her name is now known around the world, not for a great reason in any way, but it's still known around the world. This teenage girl's story has affected so many people, but she is not the only teen to have gone missing before, why has hers? The answer is the media, the media took this story and blew it up, focused on certain (attention grabbing) facts of the case, and in the process affected many people across the world and in New Hampshire.…
