In Midsummer Night’s Dream There is a group of characters known as the Mechanics. These men are used in story mainly for comic relief and to further sub plots, or to tie together plots in one one event in the play. The mechanics are not just used for comic relief however, they also show powerful and inspiring messages through their wacky hijinks and comedic value. One such message is that even with the odds stacked against them a person can pull off their goal in a good manner, and earn respect from others that was previously thought impossible to attain. The mechanics show this as they try to put on a good play when none of them have acting or any theatre experience. They have problems with obtaining a set for their play, and have to resort to using an actor as a wall and the moon. In the woods Bottom's head gets turned into that of a donkey and then has a fairy queen fall in love with him only for his group of workers run out of the woods without finishing their practice. Even through all this adversity the group of laborers manage to make the noble lords and ladies happy with the play and even congratulate the Mechanics with payment. This proves that the Mechanics are not just bumbling incompetent fools that can't do anything except be a working class citizen that is used for comedy. Nick Bottom is a man that thinks he is good at most things. This is highlighted by the fact that he tried to play very part in their play except the wall and moon. Peter Quince shows human leadership in the fact that he chooses parts and the play. Snout shows human shyness, because he was very nervous on stage even though he had to only say a few lines and played the wall. Flute shows human reluctance because he was the only one opposed to the part he was
