Mathru Blind School in Bangalore
Having been in India since June 2009-mostly in Bangalore- I have visited Mathru Blind School on numerous occasions. A number of these were impromptu visits. I have also visited the rented premises where Mathru is maintaining a hostel for college level blind students from outside Bangalore and interacted with the students. I have seen the site of the future building that Mathru will be constructing for a vocational training center, hostel for blind college students and later, a home for destitute blind women. I have been shown the Architects plan for the building. The ground- breaking (Bhoomi Pooja) ceremony is scheduled for January
28, 2010. Attached is the brochure developed in Nov 2009 giving all details of the new project. Mathru’s own 2009 half yearly report is also attached. I have reviewed their 2009 report and can vouch for its contents. Since their report has given all the verified facts and numbers, the rest of my report will be more on impressions and hopes. A list of recent significant achievements is attached.
Mathru School is located in Newtown, Yelahanka – an area of
Bangalore, near the new International Airport. The school is on land given to Mathru at a subsidized rate by the city, and surrounded by high-rise apartment buildings. These buildings are of conventional design and wear a weathered look.
Mathru School’s architecture and appearance is a refreshing contrast. Small, well maintained gardens are outside the school. When you walk into the school, a chalkboard lists the special events for the day. On the right is a small office for the newly hired Administrator, Hemalatha. A full time Administrator is a necessity since the activities of Mathru have increased substantially, and the founder Ms. Muktha spends a significant amount of her time in Public Relations, networking

‘The school was modern, it couldn’t have been very old. Perfectly manicured lawns separated the buildings, with their names -- English, Maths, Social Sciences -- displayed on the portico entrances. Each building was surrounded by rose gardens, whose perfume we could smell from the car. Tall, leafy, light green trees shaded the lawns. On one side of the grounds there were netball courts and playing fields and on the other was an enormous two-storey building defined by the word Administration.…

This study focused on how teachers in Harare, Zimbabwe felt in regards to including blind students in the general education classroom. It was found that a majority of the teachers had a negative attitude toward this inclusion. Much of this negativity was due to the fact that teachers felt that blind children would not be socially accepted in regular classes which would affect their academic achievement. They also felt that they would not be able to appropriately accommodate these children due to lack of resources, equipment and support staff. Because of this, many of the teachers felt that blind children should be in special…

The word “mathematics” is often associated with ancient Greeks and modern Asians, but many mathematical discoveries happened on the lands of India. Math recordings date back to 1200 BC and India has introduced the world to the decimal system, advanced trigonometry, negative numbers, the concept of zero, and much more. Aryabhata (476–550 CE) was the first in the line of greatmathematician-astronomers from the classical age of Indian mathematics and Indian astronomy. His most famous works are the Aryabhatiya (499 CE, when he was 23 years old) and the Arya-siddhanta. Name While there is a tendency to misspell his name as "Aryabhatta" by analogy with other names having the "bhatta" suffix, his name is properly spelled Aryabhata: every astronomical text spells his name thus,[1] including Brahmagupta's references to him "in more than a hundred places by name".[2] Furthermore, in most instances "Aryabhatta" does not fit the metre either.[1]…
