Here is some information about Martin Luther King Jr. himself. He was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia and died on April 4, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee. The march was crucial in helping to pass the Civil Rights Act, which outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex or national origin. Even as his oppressors exercised force and brutality, King’s insistence on avoiding violence, which he also taught his followers to practice, was a major factor in the respect and acknowledgment given to the civil rights movement during a time of unrest and unease in the country. “ Violence as a way of achieving racial justice is both impractical and immoral. I am not unmindful of the fact that violence often brings about momentary results. Nations have frequently won their independence in battle. But in spite of temporary victories, violence never brings permanent peace. ” The best way to fight a situation like this is to stay peaceful and go through this together. To be one unit and to hold out through tough time. Freedom is what they stand for and this country is built on freedom. “Man must evolve for all human conflict a method which rejects revenge, aggression and retaliation. The foundation of such a method is love.” In 1963, Dr. King achieved perhaps his most important accomplishment when he helped lead over 200,000 people to the Lincoln Memorial overlooking the Washington Monument. They try to oppress but to remain peaceful to get what is needed for everyone. To be united to stand for a cause that brought injustice to everyone. It was here where King made his historic “I Have a Dream” speech which called for an end to racism. “ I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. ” They are correcting the wrongs in history. He is the one to end racism which was a major achievement and we wouldn’t have the America we know today if it wasn’t for Martin Luther King
