The Marine Corps core values are very important. Honor, courage and commitment are part of each and every marine’s dedication to his or her corps. The Marine Corps core values are the corner stone of the Marine Corps and have been passed on through generation to generation through classes and through example. They are the guiding principles and beliefs that give us strength, influence our attitudes, and regulate our behavior. They must be displayed not only on the field of battle but off as well. They are important because the Marine Corps core values are what bond us marines into a family and into a fighting force capable and ready to face and overcome any challenge put in our way. Honor is the first of the Marine Corps core values. Honor requires each marine to exemplify the ultimate standard in ethical and moral conduct. Each marine must exemplify an uncompromising code of personal integrity, be accountable for his or her actions as well as holding other marines both junior and senior to their actions. We failed our fellow marines in this aspect by not encouraging them enough to complete the training course and allow them to fail. The second of the Marine Corps core values is courage. Courage is honor in action. It is moral strength to go above and beyond what is required of us as marines. It means to take a stand for what is right in spite of adverse consequences. It is what enables us to lead not only our junior marines but our peers as well. In the training course we failed in this aspect by not stepping up and taking our fellow marines aside and giving them the motivation to succeed as well as not making sure that they knew that failing the training was not an option. We left our marines behind to fail and that is not acceptable. The last of the Marine Corps values is commitment.
