Newspaper editor John L. O'Sullivan first used the term manifest destiny in an 1845 article to describe the inevitability surrounding the annexation of Texas. Since then it has come to describe the belief among American settlers and political leaders that it was their God-given right and duty to expand U.S. territory, customs, and institutions throughout North America from coast to coast. The concept gained traction during the nineteenth century as immigration and land acquisitions, including the Louisiana Purchase (1803), drastically increased the feasibility and pace of westward expansion.…
Another example would be going to school each and every single school day. It wasn’t fate that caused me to go to school. It’s my will and decision to make my parents proud and to achieve an education. Though making your parents proud and getting an education these days is very important, it is not necessary! I don’t go to…
I believe that destiny is something that can be controlled by our actions and opinions, not something that can be determined by the stars like; “Is it even so? Then I defy you stars!” act 5. Scene 1. Line number 42. Romeo. Destiny is something to be discovered and longed for, something one must search for. Romeo and Juliet often talk about how their love must be destiny and I suppose that it may have been in their eyes. I do not think that is true, even if it were destiny they should have listened to the thoughts they had when the thought that their relationship was too rash.…
Manifest Destiny was a big plus to those who had very little, or nothing at all and sought to begin a new life. It was a movement to the west where there was more land. When you open a box of assorted chocolates, what do you see? Some people look, and they know that there are some chocolates mixed in that are absolutely horrid, and they do their best to escape them. Others see the candies and know that one of them will be their demise, but they eat them all anyways. However, a few people gaze into the box and see an opportunity for surprise with each morsel. In the movie Forrest Gump, the concept of destiny is viewed by the characters in various different ways. Lieutenant Dan believes in predetermined destiny, Jenny spends her entire life trying to take control of her destiny, and Forrest simply takes life one step at a time, believing that destiny is about the journey. Although each character is faced with poor circumstances, Forrest’s view about destiny leads him through the best life compared to the others.…
Sometimes, destiny is not always good. It becomes playful. When you met someone, you learned to love, you thought that it was destiny who made your paths cross. But what if making your paths cross is just a part of the game that the playful destiny creates? Making you realize in the end that the person you thought that was destined for you was not really meant to stay, but only destined to make you feel love and leave you when you have already fallen.…
When we read and hear of things like a higher power, destiny, and predetermined paths, it may sound hokey to some, but to me it provides insight into new avenues for achievement. For example; I am now age 58, and can say that I have accomplished several things that a boy growing up in a rural Western Pennsylvania coal mining town of 700 people could never have imagined attempting, let alone accomplishing. The point is that now I realize that a goal’s success or failure rests squarely on my shoulders, and is dependent on my preparation, execution, and consistency. This point, along with the relationship to the development of goals that continue to…

Have you ever heard of the word “destiny”. Well, of course you could’ve red that word somewhere. Three-year-olds have heard of that too. So, what is it? There are just certain thoughts when you hear words like that. For kids, they would say it’s all about Cinderella and Ariel and any Disney princesses and cartoons that make people fantasize and believe that dreams do come true, right? But let’s have it the other way around. No child play, just plain serious and sensible talk. Destiny is something not played, it would play with you and you’ll never like what happens next. Its mere existence depends on people’s variations. Destiny. Come on! Destiny? It is not planned, it is never a coincidence. Ever heard of this quote: “There are no coincidences in this world, it could’ve been destiny playing along with people”. I don’t know who said that nor I even care on his biography… but whoever thought of that plain statement is a sworn genius.…
