5. Managerial Grid

The x/y axis on the grid consist of two behavior dimensions, concern for people and concern for production.
Concern for people is the degree to which a leader considers the needs of employees when deciding how tasks or jobs should be done. This can be personal or professional development. This behavior dimension moves along the y-axis.

Concern for production is the degree to which a leader emphasizes objectives and productivity goals when deciding how tasks or jobs should be done. This can be rules, policies or performance standards. This behavior dimension moves horizontally along the x-axis.

Based on the following grid there are 5 different types of leadership styles. Following is a detail explanation on how to dissect each style and understand them better. 1. Country Club Style: this style is in the position (1,9) indicating y-axis to be 9 and x-axis to be 1, which basically means that leaders who practice this styles concentrates more on the people and this employees rather than production. This type of leader believe that if his employees are feel that they are needed and valued and their wants are satisfied they will perform better. In the end the work place is fun and relaxed to an extent that the production suffers immensely. 2. Improvised Style: this style is in the position (1,1) indicating y-axis to be 1 and x-axis to be 1, which basically means that leaders who practice this styles concentrates less on both employees & production. This is a very weak management style where the employees are completely dissatisfied which ultimately effects the production and the leaders seems to care less on both aspects. 3. Produce or Perish Style: this style is in the position (9, 1) indicating y-axis to be 1 and x-axis to be 9, which basically means that leaders who practice this style concentrates more on the production rather than his employees.
