1.According to Maslow's hierarchy, which basic needs did Shank's old boss fail to meet? Shank’s old bosses failed to meet her self- actualization needs for growth, respect and self-fulfillment. Explain why the needs have not been met. What could be done to meet these missing needs? Her previous employers failed to make an effort to show her that they genuinely care about her as a valuable employee. She felt invisible, never received a compliment and not feedback whatsoever. Her previous employers’ hygiene motivation factors did not motivate Shank on any levels, did not offer her any development support. She felt her ideas were not respected, recognized, or appreciated. Her previous employer failed to empower Shank enforcing the perception that her ideas and decisions were important and had a direct impact on the customers, and the company’s goals achievement. In order to meet these missing needs successful organizations need to make an effort to show employees that the organization genuinely cares about them. The Owners, CEO, and managers need to understand, encourage and enable their employees’ personal growth towards self-actualization. At Flight 001 Shank gets the feeling that her employer honestly care about her, management and owners make an effort to provide her and her co-workers with compliments and feedback about what they can do better at, supporting their ideas, and taking them seriously allowing them to have a say on any decision or situation the organization faces in today’s economy. Flight 001’s motivation factors help Shank and her co-workers feel motivated on several levels offering them development support in any direction whatsoever that employees seek to grow and become more fulfilled. Working at Flight 001 Shank feels her ideas are respected, appreciated putting them into action.
