Man Loves a Woman

When a man loves a woman is about two adults and their children dealing with having an alcoholic in the family. The wife, Alice, is an alcoholic and drinks because she was influenced by it her entire life and also because it gives her pleasure. The husband at first does not think that she has a problem and condones her activities without ever thinking she has such a major problem. After many instances be realizes that she needs help especially when she falls out of the shower and passes out. She goes to rehab willingly and has a hard time at first cooping without any alcohol. She gets over this and becomes a figure to the people there and gives them comfort. She gets home and knows that she wont be the same anymore and starts to fight with her husband constantly. They eventually move apart to get away from each other. They meet at the end of the movie at an AA meeting when she confesses the wrong she has done to her husband in front of her fellow members and her husband is there to hear it. They make-up and forgive each other.

I believe that the message of the movie is to show that anyone can become and alcoholic based on their choices alone. It also shows how easy it is to let someone that you care about continue to do things wrong because you don’t want them to be hurt by you in the short term, but this can result in long-term damage than sometimes can’t be fixed.

I liked the movie because it made me feel like I was in both of their shoes. I saw the challenges from Alice’s and Michael’s points of view. Alice had to struggle with herself being a mother, and an alcoholic and Michael had to struggle with being a father and making the right decisions to benefit his wife. I overall liked the movie and thought it had a great message, to never stop trying for someone that you
