Mall Of America Narrative
What I remember most is gazing up one last time at the magnificent sight Mall of America, hoping we’d be back soon. One of the greatest days i’ve ever had, happened to fall on a hot summer day, and my dad, my brother, and I had the long and exhausting drive from Wisconsin to Minnesota. The drive was a dreadful 4 and a half hours, including having to deal with my siblings the whole time. We finally arrived to Mall of America, but we faced another difficult challenge: finding a parking spot in the ginormous parking garage. We looked and looked for what seemed like years until we finally found a parking spot. We stopped at a few little gift shops and bought just a couple items. We managed to pull ourselves from the malls and gift shops, and started the exciting walk to the theme park. …show more content…
“Wait up you two!” my dad exclaimed, but I barely heard him because it seemed like he was a mile away. My brother and I started out on a twisty ride that would eventually turn us upside down. The line was very blunt, and in about 15 minutes, I found myself plopping down in the comfy seat of the ride. The ride started by pointing straight down and proceeded right into the 360 degree turn. After that thrill of a lifetime, we went on the whole day shopping and going on as many thrilling rides as we could, while also looking at all of the amazing other things the park had in store for us. At around 8:30 P.M, just an hour before it closed, my dad decided that it was time to leave and go back home. I found myself staring up at all of the amazing things, and begging my dad if we could come back one

It was going to be a short ride only about 4 hours altogether through the South Dakota mountains. About an hour into our ride, we reached the mountains and as soon as we did Brody, Eli, Maddy, and I rode our horses to the top of the mountains. When we reached the top of the mountains we got off our horses and looked out over the South Dakota scenery, it was a beautiful view. I have never seen a better view in my life. You could see so far since we were up so high in the air and when we looked down at Tommy and Cassie they looked like ants. After we took a few pictures we headed back down to Tommy and Cassie. We went a little further after we got down from the mountain and then we turned back and headed towards camp. We arrived back at camp we washed, fed, and watered the horses. When we were done with that stuff we made a fire and started carving on sticks for a competition we were having and then at about 11 we went to…

It was our last day and we were headed to the airport. I was very disappointed that I didn’t have my phone for the plane ride home. It was a long drive there and it felt like forever. For some reason my dad pulled off the interstate and pulled into a Verizon Wireless parking lot. My dad went inside and was in there for half an hour. I asked my mom “What are we doing here?”…

Everyone thinks that Disney World is fun but when I was 4 I thought it was scary. All of those princess’ and scary statues scared me. But the rides were even worse. When I saw the Rockin’ Rollercoaster I freaked out. I knew that my mom would make me try a new something new like the Rockin Rollercoaster. And that's exactly what she did. I don’t really like trying new things but I knew that my sister and my mom would do it too and they wanted to have fun with me. Somehow she knew that I would love that ride.…

David Guterson’s narrative about the Mall of America delves into several facets that are embedded throughout the mall both physically and mentally. A vivid description about the mall’s interior design makes the audience feel like they have visited the mall. Guterson also writes about how people, individually and as a society, are effected psychologically by this pseudo-metropolis. The grandeur of the mall is, without question, second to none. Shoppers are drawn to visit because of all the modern frills contained within. A theme park, arcade, hundreds of shops, and eateries are the staples of the mall, but the gardens, flowers, and trees define the mall as being “the best of the best.” The atmosphere created by combining “Mother Earth” with…

It was a day that my family, my friend and I went to Wildwood for vacation. We were at the rides and all of a sudden my friend and I saw the Slingshot ride. We thought it would be fun to go on. It was about $60 for 2 riders. Later on, we found my parents, we told them the cost, and my mom automatically said no. But then, I asked my dad and he said yes. We weren’t able to do it that night because they were doing work on the ride.…

We drove down in separate cars from Kentucky enduring about thirteen long hours of “fun” with my immediate family. We finally arrive in animal kingdom where we are staying in one of the Disney hotels. We get to our room and get settled in when I look out on the balcony and see giraffes, and antelopes, and peacocks walking around in my back yard. It was one of my favorite parts of this trip. We then go out to wait for the bus to take us to our first kingdom, epcot. I remember immediately being here as a child and know exactly what I want to go and do and see. Now being seventeen, I take one of my cousins and we go off on our own to see what we want to experience. We go to the science museum and learn about space and evolution which has through my high school years been very beneficial to me. Having fun and learning at the same time was great. I spend the entire next day going around to all the rides and enjoying them at least two times each. I couldn’t believe how much fun I was having. After that I went to the stores and got all the things I wanted to take back home to remember this trip…

Through his piece “Enclosed. Encyclopedic. Endured: the Mall of America.” David Guterson shares his experience of the Mall of America as it opened and its effects of the American culture. From sharing statistics about the amount of jobs available, the number of parking spots, or how much cash is dispersed each week from just the ATMs; Guterson allows readers to feel the massive scale of the mall. He shares stories of the people he met and his own views on the mall, and what it says about America and its people’s values. Guterson makes it clear that Americans have become too absorbed with the thoughts of materialistic belongings; and a mall, such as the Mall of America, only makes those thoughts that much worse and destroys the people’s values. Although the points Guterson makes about the crumbling values and presently true and I agree that materialism is a horrible quality for a person to have, the mall in itself is not a bad place. It brings joy to many people and not just through ways of materialism and buying everything your heart desires, but for the sheer pleasure of entertainment. When young children go to the mall with their parents and attend Camp Snoopy or go to LEGOLAND; that is not materialistic in the slightest. All in the entire mall is not the horrible place that Guterson makes it out to be.…
