Malcolm X Mother Tongue Analysis

For writing project two I used Malcolm X’s article A Homemade Education and Amy Tan’s article Mother Tongue for two completely different reasons. With regards to Tan’s article, I was able to easily relate to her experiences which then made it easier to read; personally when a reading is more relatable, I feel more engaged and it actually makes me want to keep reading. I choose Malcolm X’s article because it mentioned such a unique experience, and although it did not directly connect to my essay it did provide great examples and quotes that I was able to incorporate. The process of choosing my topic was by mistake, I actually misread the prompt and wrote about culture within my personal life. After realizing my mistake, I decided that I still wanted to talk about things that I could relate to, so I choose to write about immigrant culture. I ended up having plenty to say about this topic.
Although I had to delete two pages out of the essay, I was still left with a decent foundation to produce an essay that matched the prompt. My editing process was tedious, multiple times I had to go back to the essay and erase parts that I liked but did not seem to make sense within the context of the prompt. I also noticed I was making a lot of organizational mistakes; I think this was due to me keeping parts of my old essay. Next time I think that starting from the beginning might be the best idea in order to avoid organizational mistakes and avoid straying from the topic. The peer review was actually helpful this time, I think I benefit more from the peer reviews instead of the personal review. I believe that I’m too biased when it comes to my work, so I need someone else to judge it. During the peer review I received good tips and he pointed out areas where I started to get off topic, which really helped me out when trying to put together my final
