A Centrist is a person who favors selective political involvement and practical solutions to modern problems. A Centrist tends to keep an open mind on new issues and prefers capitalism to work out economic problems if at all possible. Although I was a centrist I was on the boarder line of being a right wing conservative who would like to see a capitalistic society and little government intervention. The next quiz was an ideology quiz. This quiz told me that I also tended towards the conservative side. I apparently also would like to see order in society instead of equality. These two tests showed similar results in that both said I was more closely related to a conservative than a liberal. The "Worlds smallest Political Quiz" showed the national results and percentages of those who have previously taken the test. The majority of people who take the quiz, 37.7% are liberals. The second most popular grouping is Centrist at 29 %. The ideology quiz stated that the average of all those who take this quiz are liberal as…

In the educational system in America many students have always wondered why History is a mandatory subject in acquiring there basic education. Some mention that History is a dead subject and that the past is not relative to the current situations surrounding them. Others feel that even though they become educated in History it neither predicts the future nor explains how to react to it. Although these are valid arguments, they lack the importance of what learning History can actually do for a student. Students that study and examine history have more of an opportunity to become ideal citizens for this country. This can be viewed in several different aspects of studying history. Such as, history creates an open-minded environment for students. It also helps to acknowledge the importance of certain benefits that may be taken for granted. As well as it allows students to look at those around them and improve their sociological imagination which will lead to enhanced human relations. Therefore, historiography can be described as “the history of history.” What this means in practice is an exploration of a specific topic, and how historians have explained events or people over time, i.e. how their explanations have changed due to their own worldview and/or ideological bent, due to re-interpretation of previously-viewed sources, due to the availability of new sources, previously unexplored, and/or due to the application of different questions and/or methodologies to sources. Revision of prior interpretations of the past is an implicit and important element of historiography. It requires students to not only be able to explain the different schools of thought or interpretations but also potentially to develop their own explanations, based on their assigned readings. The focus of a historiographical essay is not on the event or person itself; rather, it is on the interpretations of the event or person.…

History focuses upon a concrete and living reality with a constantly changing and developing character while the historical method in a narrow sense centers upon a pursuit of truth based on careful investigation and cross-examination of documentary evidence. History cannot serve as a search for quick and easy solutions to present and future problems. History does not disclose particular and concrete answers for the dilemmas in the field of education. Rather, history provides an awareness of both the possibilities and complexities of education. It also helps persons to discern the continuity or carryover of the past into the present and future along with points of discontinuity. Even beyond points of continuity, history serves to outline points of discontinuity with the past. In addition to stimulating the awareness of continuities and discontinuities, history can broaden understanding beyond a limited focus upon the past and provide inspiration for current and projected educational efforts.…

The presence of History in the discipline-based secondary school curriculum is to a larger extent necessary. The subject satisfies the need for identity; enhances professional thinking; demonstrates what it means to be human; improves judgment; provides instructive examples; promotes democracy; gives pleasure. To a lesser extent, though, there are a few views from the critics of the subject who feel that it does not possess sufficient value to warrant formal instruction in secondary schools. They feel that History is acceptable for the privileged few; is full of memorization and rote learning; and they argue that objectivity is unobtainable. In the overall balancing, the subject has ample uses that have managed to preserve it as a central feature of the secondary school curriculums regardless of the few issues raised by faultfinders.…
