The Child By Tiger

by Thomas Wolfe

The story, "The Child By Tiger" written by Thomas Wolfe, is primarily interpretive literature, not escape literature.
"Escape literature" is written purely for pleasure, while
"interpretive literature" is written for pleasure and to help us understand the world around us. Interpretive literature educates, asks questions about life and presents some aspects of life that we may not want to face. "The
Child by Tiger" is interpretive literature because of the way the author presents the story, the way it ends, the way it educates us, and especially how it helps us understand man's darker nature. This work is interpretive rather than escape literature because of the way the author presents the story. Thomas
Wolfe has the protagonist looking back on the events that occurred twenty-five years earlier. Even though he has had a very long time to reflect on them, he is looking back in the hope that he can make some sense out of it all. The author uses this situation to his advantage. On the second page of the story where the author writes, "He had, he said, only recently received his discharge from the Army", shows that the protagonist is second guessing what Dick
Prosser had said. This reflective outlook is a good position from which to teach the audience. The reader learns about death the same way as the protagonist. This is an ideal way to catch the attention of the audience and to educate them at the same time as the protagonist, which is a characteristic of interpretive literature. Another reason this story is interpretive is the way it ends. In "The Most Dangerous Game," which is an example of escape literature, the reader is left with a playful ending and has the opportunity to decide if Rainsford becomes the hunter or if he just leaves. No such ending is left in "The
Child by Tiger." In addition, the story does not end with the death of Dick
Prosser. The author wants to impart a

The epic of Sunjata is an essential piece of African literature because it exemplifies the African structure and most tribal cultures as well. It most prominently illustrates the culture and order that are found within the tribes and also the amazing ability of the son of King Maghan and Sogolon; Sunjata, who was destined to be the greatest king ever in Mali. When Sunjata was born, a curse was placed on him by the king’s first wife to make him born lame. The curse worked and he turned out to be lazy, greedy and ugly as well. At three years old, Sunjata could not walk and rarely spoke. Even at seven, the boy still crawled and spent all his time eating. As a result of this, the king’s first wife made her first son the king after Maghan died. Sunjata told his mother that he would walk that day and commands the blacksmith to make for him the heaviest possible iron rod. He does so, and the rod is given to Sunjata in front of a large crowd of onlookers. Sunjata successfully lifts himself upright using the iron rod and bends it into a bow in the process. The people that live in the area where Manding oral tradition is are the people who live in the kingdom of Mali.…

The Sattriya dance also, as an enduring tradition, has over the centuries as stated earlier, developed a structural grammar of its own. That structural grammar, which is the foundation of Sattriya dance, is called “Mati-Akhora”. With the use of these exercise patterns various dance poses are created, and combining all those poses in different patterns, different dance numbers have been composed.…

Books will never be completely replaced by computers. Computers can crash, and all information will be lost. If the power goes out in your house, you can't read on your computer, but you can pick up a book. What you read on a comp. is just light or something on a screen. A book is is a permentent physical printing. If computers replaced books, we'd all have serious eye problems. The joy of reading would be lost. I'd hate to have to depend on a machine for my relaxing reading time. Books are forever, computers are until it breaks down, and everything will be lost. Books can be taken care of, as can computers, but there are books that are a hundred years old, I haven't heard of anyone with the same computer for even 10 yrs. I guess comps are getting new and better, but books are still better to read. However, on the up side for comps, 1 comp, can store probebly over a hundred books, sort of like an i pod. But if the 1 comp breaks, that a hundred books too. Computers are good, and should store that kind of stuff, but I don't think it should completly replace the book. That would really suck.…
