Now that you have finished viewing, reading and linking the play to your own experience, community issues or world events, it is time to apply these connections and complete a visual essay. Specifically, you will identify images in Macbeth (they may be the images highlighted in the course: Blood, Clothing, Sleep, Light/Dark or Children) that Shakespeare uses as motifs or patterns to reveal key universal messages (themes) that still apply to today’s world.

Steps to help you get started:

Step A: choose a topic from the Theme Topics list on the next page
Step B: complete the Macbeth Mind Map Template for 10 marks (next page)
Step C: find quotation s that connect to your theme topic and the images you have selected
Step D: identify how these images / quotes and connections link to today’s world
Step E: write a theme statement in which you identify how the images / quotes / connection / etc. from your theme topic reveal a connection to today’s world. Consult page 2 of this assignment AND the Composition Folder on the home page in order to write your theme statement.
Step F: review the criteria (below) of what you MUST include in your Visual Essay.

CRITERIA: Your Visual Essay MUST include the following:

1. Include the five key Macbeth images (green boxes on the template) that you carefully selected to show Step A’s Theme Topic. The five images you select should be on one slide. If you want to, you have the option to use any information from your Viewing Log. You may also include a photograph from a current event which relates to this literary image.
2. Include 5 more information slides that show your findings (one for each of the purple circles on the template) and which include brief explanations on how the image communicates Step A’s Theme Topic. Identify clearly the image you are discussing (#1? #2 etc.)
3. Optional: You may wish to include background sounds in
