Authors of young adult books use similar characteristics to interest their readers. Love triangles are one of the commonalities in young adult books. One of the books that show this is the Pure Trilogy. In the Pure Trilogy, there is a love triangle that involves El Capitan, Pressia, and Bradwell. The chemistry between Pressia and Bradwell starts when Pressia accidentally interrupts Bradwell’s Shadow History lesson while she is trying to save herself from a wretch. Then, later in the books, she gets drafted in the OSR by El Capitan. As he is training her he falls in love with her, however, El Capitan knows that him and Pressia can never be intimate. This is because he has his brother, Helmud, fused onto him from the detonations and because Pressia loves Bradwell. A similar love triangle can be seen in another trilogy called Matched.
