Shortly after, they met other boys who also crashed with them. They all gathered and had meeting using a conch shell to represent civilization and rules to maintain their meetings. During the first meeting they realized there were no adults and they needed someone who can make the difficult decisions for everyone just like an adult would. They all agreed on electing a chief. They chose Ralph. After a few days on the island Ralph finally understood that they were going to be on the island for a while and that no one knew where they were. He decided that the best idea would be to start making homes for the little boys because they are worried about the “beastie”. One of the littluns claimed they saw a horrific looking creature that maybe was a vicious snake but they could not tell. After the event they could not think of anything else but being eaten or harmed by this beastie.
