The sixteenth president of the united states was a great man of honor. He was born in Hodgeville, Kentucky, on February 12, 1809 in a simple log cabin. He married Mary Todd on November 4,1842 and had four male children by the names of Robert, Edward, William, and Thomas. Unluckily, Lincoln’s descendants ended too soon, Robert was his only son that made it to adulthood and has his own children.
Lincoln served as captain in the Illinois militia during the Black Hawk war. Then he decided to become a lawyer, he studied by reading several law books on his own. Later he was elected president the southern states followed South Carolina and decided to secede from the union. They believed that Lincoln was a tyrant and he would ruin there economy by freeing the slaves. Abraham Lincoln was a great human being.
Abraham Lincoln is significant because he united our country and freed the slaves. America is greatly appreciated and lucky that Lincoln was elected during that time in history because he guided the united during its worst phase. The civil war brought pain, death, and tragedy to our country and he helped us aid it and kept his country united. He was the best leader our country could have during the civil war.
The united states would be very different if honest Abe wasn’t there there for our country. Today there wouldn’t be 50 states in the U.S. and our country wouldn't be as united as we are now. Slavery would still exist and women would probably not have the right to vote since slavery led to women rights'. The world would probably not see us as a the best role model because we wouldn't have unity with in our country.
Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wikes booth on April 15, 1865 at the age of fifty-six. The terrible booth used a single-shot derringer pistol and shot Lincoln threw the back of his head at fords theater. Our precious Mr. Lincoln will never be forgotten for his great accomplishments.

Abraham Lincoln is most always associated with the Civil War. But, he was not elected through a majority of the popular vote. In fact, with only forty percent of the popular vote, he wasn 't even close to a majority. His Republican platform reached out to many groups, but left out the South. Many southerners thought he was an abolitionist, although he did favor monetary compensation and a Union. As a result of southern fears over Lincoln, he was not allowed on the ballot in ten southern states, and many states threatened to secede if he was elected.
