Abe Lincoln Research Paper
Abraham Lincoln was considered by many American’s as one of the greatest Presidents of the United States. Having come from humble beginnings it could be said that Abraham Lincoln rose up to meet all the challenges that would greet him, and it could be argued that at the time the only person who could successfully guide the United States through the Civil War was Abraham Lincoln. At the time of his presidency, the United States was falling apart, with the South trying to secede from the North, creating much chaos that Lincoln had to deal with. He worked slowly and throughly, which sometimes got people agitated but he was a very careful working man and knew that it was better if he took his time. Abraham Lincoln was not only the sixteenth President of the United States, he was also the man who helped bring the Union back together and helped abolish slavery. As one of the most well-known Americans the majority of Americans are aware that Abe Lincoln was born on February 12th, 1809. He was born in Hodgenville, Kentucky. Also, some facts people may not know are his parents, Thomas Lincoln, his father, was a respected figure in their community and was a strong and determined pioneer; and Nancy Hanks Lincoln, his mother, loving and caring, she taught Abe well. Lincoln was not an only child, he had a sister named Sarah and a brother named Thomas, who passed away during infancy. His brothers death was not the only tragedy Lincoln had to endure, at the young age of nine, his mother passed away and it has been stated that this loss greatly devastated Lincoln. A few months after the death of Nancy Lincoln Thomas Lincoln remarried. Sarah Bush Johnston a woman from Kentucky with three children of her own would become Lincolns’ stepmother. Research shows that her and Abe really hit it off, and it was Sarah who encouraged Abe to study and learn how to read. It could also be argued that the early encouragement that prompted Lincoln to eventually

It has been the task of biographers ever since to deplore that image of Lincoln as the sort of extremist rhetoric that abolitionism was generally renowned for; or to insist that Lincoln may have had elements of racism in him but that he gradually effaced them as he moved on his "journey" to emancipation; or to suggest that Lincoln was an abolitionist all along who dragged his feet over emancipation for pragmatic political reasons.…

Abraham Lincoln was pushed into the light of the world in Harden County, Kentucky on the 12th day of February 1809. 1 Born into a farming family, little Abe was no stranger to heavy labor and hardships. Thomas Lincoln, Abraham’s father, moved the family farm once locally before going to Indiana in 1816.2 Thomas’s move of the family may be attributed to their disapproval of slavery (the Baptist church they attended broke away from the parent church on the issue of slavery), however, the fundamental reason was to purchase land with a secure title.3 The state of Indiana was granted secure titles for land plotted in accordance with the Northwest Ordinance. His mother, Nancy Hanks, died when he was nine years old from “milk sickness”, which was a rare occurrence even at the beginning of the 19th century.4 Abraham’s father encouraged him as a young child and man to work hard, which continued throughout his life. In the movie, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Slayer, Abe defends the new nation against vampires using an axe made of silver…naturally. The idea of Lincoln using that as his weapon of choice was likely based on the common knowledge of his proficiency with the chopping tool. His work ethic, tremendous physical strength, and popularity made him a fun choice for such a ridiculous movie plot.…

Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809, to Thomas Lincoln and Nancy Hanks Lincoln, two uneducated farmers. Lincoln was born in a one-room log cabin on the 348 acre (1.4 km²) Sinking Spring Farm, in Nolin Creek, three miles (5 km) south of Hodgenville, in southeast Hardin County, Kentucky (now part of LaRue County), an area which, at that time, was considered the "frontier." The name Abraham was chosen to commemorate his grandfather, who was killed in an American Indian raid in 1786.[2] His elder sister, Sarah Lincoln, was born in 1807; a younger brother, Thomas Jr, died in infancy. It is sometimes debated whether Abraham Lincoln had Marfan syndrome, an autosomal dominant…

Abraham Lincoln (i/ˈeɪbrəhæm ˈlɪŋkən/; February 12, 1809 – April 15, 1865) was an American politician and lawyer who served as the 16th President of the United States from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865. Lincoln led the United States through its Civil War—its bloodiest war and perhaps its greatest moral, constitutional, and political crisis.[2][3] In doing so, he preserved the Union, abolished slavery, strengthened the federal government, and modernized the economy.…

Abraham Lincoln was the sixteenth President of the United States (1861-1865). He was born on February 12, l809 in a log cabin in Kentucky. When he entered the national limelight he had little experience with politics, and he experienced several failures on the path to the White House. His strength was his great character, which was reflected in his fortitude and strong will to resolve the discord in the Union. Many historians believe his innate wisdom and humanity made him the greatest of all the Presidents. Like Washington, he generated a legend, which is undoubtedly greater for his having been the first President to be assassinated while in office. He was known for his honesty and often wore a stovepipe hat. This six-foot-four-inch President…

On February 12, 1809 the 16th President of the United States was born in a log cabin in Hardin County, Kentucky. It is unlikely that his uneducated farming father, Thomas Lincoln, or his mother Nancy Hanks Lincoln had any idea that their first-born son (he had an older sister, Sarah) would eventually be considered by many historians as the greatest US president ever. Abraham's birth may have been largely uneventful but as with all of us his environment and family began to shape his life. Before Abraham Lincoln's 10th birthday he had lost 2 family members. Two years later Abrahams mother Nancy died from 'milk sickness'. He had also had a younger brother who died in infancy. Abraham Lincoln soon had a new stepmother, Sarah Bush Johnston. Abraham Lincoln’s education consisted of little more than a total of 18 months throughout his early life, and was mostly from itinerant teachers. This did not stop young Abraham Lincoln thirsting for knowledge though. He was an avid reader and borrowed books from neighbors at every opportunity. When Lincoln reached 21 he moved to Illinois, where he was hired to build a flatbed boat and transport materials down the Mississippi river. Next he landed a job working at a general store, and it was noted that he was very sociable. Lincoln soon became interested in town affairs and attended meetings regularly. After being asked to do commentary on…

Although other states such as Indiana lay claim to his birth, most sources agree that Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809, in a backwoods cabin in Hodgeville, Kentucky. In an interview during his campaign for the presidency in 1860 Lincoln described his adolescence as "the short and simple annals of the poor." (p 30). His father Thomas was a farmer who married Nancy Hanks, his mother, in 1806. Lincoln had one sister, Sarah, who was born in 1807.…

Abraham Lincoln came from humble origins in the backwoods of Kentucky. He was born on February 12, 1809 in a one room log cabin on Sinking Spring Farm, in southeast Hardin county Kentucky. His father (Thomas Lincoln) was a poverty stricken frontiersman after losing his farm, which along with his wife (Nancy Hanks Lincoln) and other children had to work hard everyday for the necessities of life. Lincoln was no stranger to hard work; he split logs plowed his families land and used his carpentry skills around the farm. He did prefer reading and learning to the hard work which caused a strained relationship between he and his father. He only received 18 months of formal education and was largely self educated. In 1816 Lincoln’s father lost his farm and was forced to move to Perry County, Indiana. This area of the country near the Ohio River was very remote and rugged. Their first winter at the new homestead was very harsh but they were able to survive. Unfortunately that summer Lincoln’s mother died from a deadly disease known as “milk sickness” and left his father with the children to raise alone(Lincoln research project). After the death of his mother the family fell apart and the most of the day to day work was left to Lincoln and his sister. In the winter of 1819 Lincoln’s father went back to Kentucky and found a new wife Sarah Bush Johnson who was a widow with three children (notable biographies.com). His new mother was a very positive light placed in his life. She was very affectionate and treated both sets of children…
