Life In Jail Narrative
These past few months have been pretty rough. I’ve been in jail for almost three months now, and it’s all because of my best friend. These jail cells are a lot less roomy than I expected. I hate being here, it’s crowded and it smells really bad. The beds are itty bitty, rock hard, and worst of all freezing. The toilets don’t even flush, and there is always some guard coming to check on me, so I don’t get any good sleep at night. Later throughout the day, as I was laying in my cold uncomfortable bed, i was thinking about something that I could have done differently to not get caught. What if I wouldn’t of talked to the officer, what if i wouldn’t of shown up, and most of all, what if i wouldn’t have lit that dang cigar. Why did I have to talk to the officer? How didn’t I realize that the policeman was Jimmy? Yeah sure, it has been twenty years but I should have recognized my old friend. …show more content…
The cigar is the reason i’m in here, it was a stupid mistake that i didn’t think about and i should have. I knew that I as wanted in Chicago, but then again, I thought that the officers in New York would find out. Wait, but how is the flame of a lighter enough to know who I am? Now that I am actually thinking about it, if I wouldn’t have lit the cigar, I wouldn’t of been noticed, and I wouldn’t be here right now. Anyway, now that it’s late, the guards are coming to check all the inmates cells for dangerous objects and to make sure none of us have killed ourselves. Of course, the same routine every night. Under the bed, nothing, In the sink drain, nothing, in the back of the toilet, nothing. No that all 18 cells in my area have been checked, I hear a faint voice from across the room. Wait, it’s the new guy, wow, what a surprise. “Hey buddy, how’d you get yourself in here?” “You look like a pretty reasonable fellow,” He calls. “My name is John by the way, what’s

On the above date and time, I (Deputy Helm) was working in HU/B. All inmates were told to go up after evening meal. All doors were placed on group unlock for all the inmates to enter their cells. The inmates were given a warning that if they were left out of their cells after the doors came off group unlock they will be locked down. Once the doors were taken off group unlock, Inmate Hall was still outside of his cell. Inmate Hall was called to the Deputy's Panel and asked why he was not inside of his cell. He stated "my celles closed me out."…

I never expected it to be like this. So desolate and hopelessly alone. The stinging smell of bleach and the metallic taste in my mouth leaves my mind numb. I glance to the clock, and I am pained to see that only two minutes have passed since I last checked. He should be here by now, but I am not surprised that he isn’t, punctuality has never been one of his strong suits, although I had hoped he would understand the importance of this moment. Frank was a good man, I didn’t doubt that, but he did have his own way of dealing with…

Forty minutes had passed since Chief Parker dragged me into the police station though to the rest of the officers, it looked like I was there of my own free will. He grabbed my phone from my jacket pocket before leaving me alone in the small interrogation room: four blank concrete walls with a metal table, three uncomfortable chairs that were plucked from Hell itself, a two way mirror, and a table lamp that shined brightly on my face.…

While lying on the grass in the front yard, I imagined the exciting night ahead. Before long, Taylor and his girlfriend, Kara, arrived and picked me up. Almost immediately, I stood up and sauntered in my Duke sweatshirt and basketball shorts over to their car. I jumped into the backseat. Immediately, I was assaulted with the strong smell of perfume that had been sprayed inside the car because it belonged to Kara. Tonight instead of driving, she decided to let Taylor drive illegally without a license. As we drove off to Erik’s house, the rendezvous for tonight’s “Goatman” adventure, we saw a police officer had just pulled a car over. As we drove by, we breathe easier and relaxed because we didn’t see any more cops on the way.…

The book that I chose to do my report on is called Life in Prison by Stanley “Tookie” Williams. Tookie Williams was the infamous founder of the notorious Crip gang. The main objective of this book is to dispel some of the street myths surrounding prison life and to steer people away from crime. Tookie first learned about prison from his friend older brother named Rock. Rock spent most of his time in and out prisons. Rock described prison as a gladiator school where men go to prove their toughness. Rock made prison seem like a fun place to go to, and Tookie was eager to go to prison just to prove that he was tough. In 1981, Tookie was found guilty of killing four people and was sent to death row in San Quentin, which is a maximum prison in California.…

Walking into the jail, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Was there going to be rows of cells with prisoners in them? Were the prisoners going to be walking about like it was any normal day? Were the officers going to be big, scary, and yelling? I made a few guesses but then decided to wait until I got inside and saw exactly what was in store for my classmates and I. We immediately had to go through a metal detector and get wanded to make sure no one was bringing in anything they weren’t allowed to bring in. Right off the bat this set the stage as to how strict the facility was.…

I need to escape, I thought. I was tensed up. I waited for their point of weakness. It would be when they were lifting me up to put me in jail. I pretended to faint. I waited until I was being lifted into the cell. I drew my arm back and hit one guard in the gut. I swung my other arm back to hit the other guard in the nose. He dropped me and I ran. I saw buildings on either side of me. I heard the yells of the…

Prison cells are far beyond just grimey, but often completely unsanitary: covered in urine, feces, and even vomit. Prison food often leads to nutrient deficiencies and is often described as utterly foul. Inmates on bad behavior are put on nutraloaf, a cruelly disgusting food used as punishment for days or months at a time. Prison life is also difficult because the guards are very rarely rebuked for being hostile to the inmates and incomprehensive to their needs or complaints. This negligence is made even more dangerous because of the threat of some potentially dangerous inmates. Prisons and jails, inevitably is a place where people have violent backgrounds and tendencies. In jail there are a spectrum of people there, from people who have done unforgivable actions to those who may have committed crimes out of necessity, to those who may have been incorrectly convicted. The negligence of guards coupled with this spectrum of people, in such unpleasant living conditions create a powerfully terrible and dangerous situation to be in. People have been stabbed, beaten, raped, and even learn how to become better crime, in a facility with the purpose of preventing people from evil actions. The United States has a recidivism rate of nearly 77%. The current dangerous and unwelcoming state of United States prisons have very evidently failed as correctional…

We had just gotten back from a very disappointing game. I don’t remember what the score was but we got lose pretty bad. So there are a number of us chilling around the park talking afterwards and we all decided that we needed to get some weed and go hangout somewhere and try and forget about the beating we had just gotten in the game earlier that night. We all chipped in and one of the guys made a weed run. When he got back we decided that it wasn’t a good idea to stick around the park and smoke so we were trying to figure out someplace to go and chill. Then Dave chimes in that his family had just moved from their home a couple weeks earlier and the place was still empty and he still had his key. It sounded like a pretty good place to go to the rest of us so we jumped in our cars and headed on over to Dave’s old house. We pull up to the place and Dave jumps out goes and unlocks the door for us. We all get inside and start playen some music and smoking and haven a good ‘ol time. So we’re all having a pretty good time until after a while Dave, the guy whose place it was, starts throwing bottles around and trashing the place. My friends and I saw this and knew something was up so we all decided to split. After we left it wasn’t to late yet so some of us take a little joyride around town before we head home. Well, when we got back to school the following Monday we thought it was going to be just another day at school but later in the morning the cops show up. One by one all of us who had been at the party end up getting called down to the front office and are questioned by the cops. 5 guys ended up getting arrested that day (I wasn’t one of them). It turns out that the house we went to that night wasn’t actually Dave’s. His Family had just been renting the house and had been evicted from it a couple weeks earlier. The cops tracked us down because they got fingerprints from the house and a couple of the guys already had a record with the cops and they…
