Lgbt Persuasive Speech
Nobody decides to be gay. Nobody decides that, on top of all of life’s other problems, they’d like to deal with a never-ending barrage of slurs and comments about who they love. For some reason, the myth that people want to be LGBT for attention always lives on. It is, of course, perpetuated by those who haven’t experienced the effects of homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, or any other phobia we are affected by every day. When these things don’t impact you personally, it’s easy to turn a blind eye to them, as if they don’t exist. I’ve been living openly as pansexual since my sophomore year of high school. Although in one of the most liberal states in the country, my school was very rural, and populated in large part by people whose politics …show more content…
This only taught me to ignore their harsh words, and to work harder for what I believe in, and for what I know is right. During my junior year, we decided to change the color of our graduation gowns from two colors, separated by gender, to only one. There were a number of reasons this would be better for students who were gender nonconforming or transgender, but the senior class was against us. They voted to have two colors as always. As I saw it, this wasn’t a matter to be voted on, but a matter of civil rights. I, along with the rest of the GSA, refused to let something we believed was wrong go unchanged. Through persistence, patience, bargaining, and determination, we eventually brought our case before the school committee, where they voted to make the change. The class was livid. I started receiving threats of physical violence from seniors who were up to two years older than me, but I didn’t let it bother me, or stop me from continuing to fight. When it comes to things I care about, I am unwilling to give up, unwilling to do any less than I know I’m capable of. I knew I could succeed in this, and so I

The LGBTQ community has developed and changed over the years, gradually becoming more inclusive of all types of sexual and gender identities. It brings a sense of belonging to a group of people and gives many that land in the span of the LGBTQ spectrum places that they know they can go to where they will be accepted. However the community that queer people have built around them and the acceptance of the diversity and complexity of how people identify themselves does not always transfer into other aspects of life. The LGBTQ spectrum is ever changing adding new identities all the time, however they are not always readily accepted by all. Gender and sexual fluidity being among the ones that have had to face their battles to have basic rights…

One specific person being MysticGotJokes put a little twist on his. Samantha Allen, with a Ph.D. in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies describes MysticGotJokes made a prank video of him fake coming out to his girlfriend (When 2). Although he most likely did not have lousy intentions, MysticGotJokes promoted the idea that the gay community was just a joke and something to laugh at. As show before, if people see that an influential person is doing something they will tend to do the same actions. Therefore, most inhabitants of the United States will treat coming out as just a joke and something that is funny. This downgrades what the LGBT community thought of as a colossal achievement and that makes the youth in the LGBT think that what they did was not a huge…

Our school didn't have a GSA for about three years until now. When I was a ninth grader I was very sure of my sexuality. But the thing was that the school I went to wasn't very friendly when it came to LGBTQ+ people. The administration were fine, the issues usually came from the student body. I was surrounded by homophobia, and I had not one safe place to allow myself to be me. I wasn’t allowed to be as open as I wanted to be but eventually I thickened my skin and came out. Looking back at that time I really wished I had a safe place, a place where I did not feel oppressed. So senior year the original advisor for our school GSA came back. It was time to make that safe space I had so needed back at the beginning of my high school experience. So along with a few other LGTBTQ+ allies and family we breathed new life in our GSA. We had decided that it was time to hold elections because when it first began out club had no executive cabinet. So since we only had a handful of members, I’d volunteered to be president and since we had no objections and no opposing party I was voted in. We now had a full executive cabinet. So I started advocating for our club in my classes since everyone knew me and all that. And we’ve now added about two more members another gay teen and a lesbian.…

Gays do not choose to be gay; they don’t wake up one morning and decide that they just want to love the same sex. I am sure that I can speak for everyone when I say that no one would just choose a life of bullying, humiliation and being taunted forever. No human would want to be bullied to the point of where they want to commit suicide. Homosexuals cannot help being attracted to the same sex it is in their nature. Sometimes it can even be hereditary. “Jane Doe left her marriage of 25 years and her two children because of an intense love relationship that developed between her and another woman” (Robert M. Baird & Stuart E. Rosenbaum). Becoming gay can happen over a period of time. People often ask why any homosexual individual would want to marry. Heterosexuals didn’t choose to be straight so why would homosexuals choose to be…

Throughout history, humans acted in what is known as societal normality. Whether that be how one caries him/herself, how they dress or what their sexual orientation is. Regardless of what it was, society expected certain behavior from individuals, this is very common, even now. For laws to be passed, the law in question needs to be supported by many. Individuals who identify as LGBTQA+ aren’t following societal norms and because of this being an individual who identifies as LGBTQA’s is usually looked down upon. Unfortunately, many people don’t support LGBTQA+ and because of this many countries have laws against sodomy. Since LGBTQA+’s isn’t very supported majority of countries also don’t support. Countries like Jamaica used to have strict laws…

What is it about gays that just set religious people off? I mean go up to any Catholic ( and by any I mean mostly the grandpa's and grandma's), merely mention the word gay and they immediately whip out this 10 pound bible, complete with trumpets blaring and angels flying around, amazingly enough it managed to fit into their pocket). They then proceed to flip through a million pages and then, without even looking at the passage selected (complete with sticky notes and highlights) begin to recite word for word as to why Gays are evil.…
