Leona's Story

In Leona’s story, the character versus society conflict is very clear. Leona lived with her grandmother, who didn't believed in doctors, not even if they were black. Every morning, she drank a big cup of goldenrod tea, claiming that she didn't need any other medicine. One day, when Leona was walking back home, she saw lots of people on a vacant lot, planting on their own little gardens. However, there was too much trash, so she decided to call the government to take care of all the garbage. After a few days being passed from line to line, she decided to take a bus downtown and walk into the Public Health Department.
