Unit 15 Paper

We as American students should learn a second language. The students would have a better chance of getting into a good school. The student should take up on another language if it is mandatory. Therefore, learning a second language could help students in future careers, students would get paid more if they know a second language, and students would be encouraged to learn more about the culture of that language.

Students should learn another language because it could help in their future careers. In learning a second language students are set with tools and common sense to exceed in future careers (Rao, 2011). Students will benefit from using a second language in any type of career they choose. They also will be able to communicate that particular language in the work place. Also students will be able to use the language in everyday life.

Students would likely get paid more if they know a second language. If students know the language of there choice they most likely be in a better position of getting hired. Students would have a better chance at higher pay if they know two languages. Knowing two languages may get into higher positions at their jobs.

Lastly, students would be encouraged to learn more about the culture of that language. “Students are clearly recognizing the importance of learning other languages as we become a more global society” (Marklein, 2003). Students may have family members that speak a different language. Also they could use that language to their advantage and travel the world for career opportunities. Then students would feel more confident and they’ll know how important it is to learn languages.

In conclusion, students would make better career choices, being able to get promotions if they know a second language, and having that confidence to be able to speak a second language makes learning it a bit easier. I also studied Spanish in my high school years which I’m glad that I took, because it was not only a part of my culture, I was able to communicate to those that don’t know English.

First I begin with the belief that every student can learn if you use their Native language instead of English. As teachers we need to try and reach our students through a variety of ways and language is one way. Many people seem to forget that the purpose of schooling is to “educate students so that they have choices when they graduate” (Bilingual Education Is Necessary). By allowing students the option to learn another language, they are broadening the students choices for their future occupations. Furthermore by adding language classes, the school will also benefit from the enriched staff resources. Teachers teaching other languages will “bring added knowledge and teaching and managing strategies” (Bilingual Education Is Necessary) which will help multicultural schools. Not only will these teachers assist the school, they will be able to connect with certain students more than other teachers. Along with the assistance, these bilingual teachers will bring an understanding and acceptance of other cultures. By both learning another language and appreciating its unique culture, the global economy has the possibility to prosper due to the knowledge of language and culture being “a pillar of economic achievement” (Bilingual Education Should Be Increasing but It Is Declining). With the global economy prospering from a labor force that does business in many different languages, being bilingual should be sought after…

If yes, this is because knowing more languages actually makes you smarter. It happens to be so because when you learn another language, the memory lobe in your brain increases in size. When the memory lobe increases in size, you remember more things, as well as longer. Your brain also gets an increase of grey matter. The larger amount of grey matter that you have, the better your sensory perceptions are. The perceptions that could affect your schooling would be speech, seeing, hearing, memory, emotions, decision making and self-control. All of this improves your cognitive performance as well. And just from learning one language. This could greatly affect students grades.…

Therefore, students should be required to take a Spanish class before graduating from high school. This necessary because students may not be as successful in business without acquiring knowledge in bilingual studies. In addition, studying a foreign language can help the lives of students that want to become more successful than what others expect. Furthermore, students will be more likely to receive employment as international relations increase in America.
