All of everybody’s life is to learn. Each person has different personality, behaviour and curiosity; therefore, different people prefer a dissimilar learning style definitely. Student in university or college are not taught only but they have to learn in their individual learning styles as well as preferences. Learning styles are a unique way of learning in each person, which depend on personal life history, knowledge and experience. Moreover, learning style is absolutely significant and essential since ‘no one can develop anyone else except himself’ (Argyris, C.1962) Based on Kolb’s theory there are four different learning styles which are Converger, Divergen, Assimilator and Accommodator. (Kolb, 1984) In addition, there is another theory that was developed from Kolb’s theory by Peter Honey and Alan Mumford. The Honey and Mumford’s theory contains four learning styles which are Activist, Reflector, Theorist and Pragmatist. This essay aims to demonstrate about my own learning style preference which is reflector, the strengths and weaknesses of being a reflector and the ways to improve my weaknesses or disadvantages by using the theory of Honey and Mumford effectively. After finished questionnaire of Honey and Mumford about learning styles, the result is a reflector even though I also exhibit tendency to be a pragmatist. According to Honey and Mumford (1986), Reflector is the learning style that learns best from activities (Honey 1991, p.127) Each learning styles has a catchword to indicate the characteristics. First of all, Activist is ‘What’s new? I am game for anything.’. Second, reflector is ‘I would like time to think about this.’ Next, Theorist is ‘How does this relate to that?’. Finally Pragmatist is ‘How can I apply this in practice?’ (Honey and Mumford,1991 p.126) A preference for the reflector prefers to listen to others point of views and opinions before offering their ideas and reaching a decision.
