Leadership Presence: The key to landing your next management position

There is nothing more important today than effective leadership presence. The ability to encourage and inspire those around you has never been more needed than in this century. With such distractions as 9/11, the war in Iraq, and Hurricane Katrina, it is difficult to focus on the day-to-day operations that need to continue in order for us to ensure that our future will be secure; there is no other thing more important to America than its great leaders. The purpose of this writing is to enable you to become an effective leader. The definition of leadership presence is the ability to connect authentically with the thoughts and feelings of others, in order to motivate and inspire them to complete a specific task. Why leadership presence so important? Let’s imagine that you are the owner of a multi-billion dollar corporation. Aside from being “filthy” rich, you have the responsibility to see that your 5,000 employees continue to work at your organization and put forth their best effort on a daily basis. This can be done in a number of ways, but none are more effective than creating a partnership with your employees and leading them to improve their performance. It is also common for many to find leadership presence useful in many social situations as well, planning a party or event, helping your children with their homework or getting them tucked in for the night, or making sure that the troop meeting goes smoothly. All of these responsibilities require effective leadership presence. Another key element of leadership presence is the ability to connect with others. It is important to note that there are many things that can hinder or eliminate our ability to connect with others. Conducting yourself in an unprofessional manner or speaking negatively about people is one example; equally important, is your appearance and the introduction that you make.
