Define Leadership. “Effectiveness of leaders depends on how their leadership style interrelates with situation in which they operate”. Explain the various leadership styles and types of interaction with suitable examples.

Ans
Leadership can be defined as influence, that is, the area or process of influencing people so that they will strive willingly and enthusiastically towards achievement of group goals.
People should be brought to such a pitch of their devotion to duty that they not only work willingly, but also work with utmost zeal. The leaders are like front line captain, who not only inspires his soldiers by physical presence but also brings down accurate fire from supporting weapons (utilizing skills) and displays high degree of bravery and is not perturbed by danger of enemy fire. Leader instills values of honesty, takes calculated risk and displays concern for employees and customers. They do not stand and wait to see in despair things taking shape
Other definitions of Leaderships by veterans are as follows:
Louis A Allen defined Leadership as – “A Leader is one who guides and directs other people. He gives the efforts of his followers a direction and purpose by influencing their behavior”
Theo Haimann defined Leadership as – “ Leadership is a process by which an executive imaginatively directs, guides and influences the work of others in chosing and attaining specified goals by mediating between the individuals and the organization in such a manner that both will obtain maximum satisfaction”
James Gibbin defined Leadership as – “ Leadership is a process of influence on a group in a particular situation at a given point of time and in a specific set of circumstances that stimumates people to strive willingly to attain organizational objectives, giving them the experience of helping attain th common objectives and satisfaction with the type of leadership provided.
