Different business situations require different type of leadership qualities.” Basically we are going o discuss three types of Leadership:
* Autocratic: In autocratic leadership style, the person in charge has total authority and control over decision making. * Democratic: The democratic leadership style is a very open and collegial style of a running team. Ideas move freely amongst the group and are discussed openly. * Transactional: Transactional leadership is a style of leadership in which the leader promotes compliance of his followers through both rewards and punishments .
* Kind of leadership provided by Meg Whitman CEO of eBay offered was type of autocratic leadership. She was the only person to decide all the strategic plans in the company. She never asked any employee before taking any decision. She also tried to do most of the stuff by herself other than allocating tasks top the employees.
(a) Leadership style of Meg Whitman (CEO of E – BAY)
Kind of leadership provided by Meg Whitman CEO of eBay offered was type of autocratic leadership. After receiving her Masters in Business Administration (MBA), Meg Whitman started her career as a brand manager at Procter & Gamble (P&G) in 1979. She joined eBay in 1998 after changing different companies. She was the only person to decide all the strategic plans in the company. She never asked any employee before taking any decision. She also tried to do most of the stuff by herself other than allocating tasks top the employees.
Her key skills in beginning were: recruiting right people at right job and understanding the basic structure of e-bay well. To fill the senior positions in E-bay, she used to hire experienced individuals from marketing and business consulting domains. She strengthened E-Bay with most powerful E-commerce system in the world and used customer-oriented approach. For Example: Earlier Meg Whitman was not too equipped with technical knowledge and could not handle the system failure. So, when the system used to crash down, that started leading to customer dissatisfaction, decrease in footfalls on site and thus, less sales. This made Meg Whitman very concerned about the future of E-Bay. Thus, she turned herself into techno savvy and handled the situation at the right time, before it could get too late. So, was her leadership.
(B) Leadership skills of shift supervisor at burger king
The type of leadership the shift supervisor at burger king offers is mostly democratic style.
Skills: Burger King is the place where people go for entertainment, refreshment, get-togethers and to serve their appetite and thus, they would not tolerate any delay or failure of service. Thus, the shift supervisor must have to see each and every aspect of the restaurant so as to ensure continuous service. He must see to the following aspects: to ensure proper and timely order n supply of constituents, he needs to manage different types of employees and people who hail from different culture and background and thus, must possess different qualities as a leader.
Attitudes: - Attitudes are generally positive or negative views of a person, place, thing, or event— this is often referred to as the attitude object. Shift supervisor must carry the attitude of helping people if they face any problem in getting service. He must be of the attitude that can create good working environment for employees and avoid any conflicts.
