The home is isolated, and located by a lake where he spent most of his time as a child. Lars was single until he purchased a “love doll” online, whom he calls Bianca. Lars’s brother Gus, and his sister in law Karin are the ones who decided that Lars needed to seek help. They called into the office December 14th 2007 to inform me of the situation, and then decided that Lars would come in under the ruse that Bianca was sick—so currently Lars has no knowledge that he is a client.
Overall the whole town and Lars’s family is supportive. When interviewing Gus, Lars’s brother he was resistant at first saying that they should put Lars in a hospital, and he is “totally insane”. . A case that involved the topic of rape and the laws pertinent to it was that of Oliver Jovanovic. In 1998, Jovanovic, then a student at Columbia University in New York City, was convicted of attacking a Barnard College student, Jamie Rzucek. Rzucek claimed that Jovanovic had subjected her to torture and sexual abuse, holding her in his apartment for 20 hours. The defense claimed that the bondage was consensual, and said they had electronic-mail transcripts between the two as evidence that Rzucek had consented to the activity. However, the judge refused to admit the transcripts as evidence, saying that because they detailed the accuser's sexual conduct, they violated New York's rape shield law. In 1999, an appeals court ordered a retrial,…

Anne Anderson spearheads this group of families and is the spokesperson for the group. Schlictmann initially does not want to take the case, arguing that the only reason the case may be successful in court is if the court sees a theatrical value in the dead children. In the present case, the question is whether Joe Smith parent can file a lawsuit because he was discriminated against due to his race, sex, national origin, religion, and/or financial means. Like in the Yick Wo case, Smith is discriminated due to his national origin. Even though, his origin is white and the admissions policy might appear neutral to some, but it is applied unequally to whites. In DeFunis v Odegaard, this case was ruled moot because Defunis was in his last year of law school, so the courts would have to wait for a later case to set a precedent. In Bakke v. UC Board of Regents, the court would decide that at place of higher education can use race in their admission policy, but it cannot be the lone deciding factor. When the university…

Though Lars lives in deep isolation through the beginning of the film, he fails to realize that his behaviour is out of the ordinary. Throughout the exposition of the film, Lars’s character is developed to show how he behaves around others and how he refuses to interact or socialize with those in his town. The opening sequence of the film depicts Lars in his most solitary and lonely state. He is shown looking outside of the window in his home in the garage, with the bars symbolizing how he is imprisoned in his own isolation. Lars is holding the blanket his mother had knit for him in front of his mouth, and this displays how the blanket is his main source of security. While the opening sequence reveals Lars in a deeply isolated environment, Lars fails to realize that he is doing this to himself. He perceives himself as being completely normal and that he is perfectly fine, despite living in solitude.…
