Established in 1920, Qantas is the world's 11th largest airline and the 2nd oldest. It was founded in the Queensland outback as the Queensland and Northern territory Aerial Service (QANTAS) Limited, by pioneer aviators Hudson Fysh, Paul McGinness and Fergus McMaster. Qantas was a former government owned business; it did not view profits or efficiency as its prime goal. In 1993 a 25% stake was sold to British Airways. Qantas was privatised in 1995 and has had to adopt management practices to overcome both internal and external influences and had to change its narrow-minded culture. Although Qantas is primarily a passenger airline, air freight is also an integral part of its core business. Other Qantas operations include catering, tourism and E-commerce devoted to transport and air travel.…

Tsarism in Russia survived the revolution of 1905 but not that of March 1917 due to the difference in support it had in both years. It faced many difficulties throughout much of its late history; from the assassination of Alexander II and the similar attempts on Alexander III, to the downfall of the Romanov dynasty and the final abdication of Tsar Nicholas II on the 2nd of March. The way the country was being run and the strongly Slavophile views within Russian society made it difficult for any kind of revolt to occur at any time. There were, however, two main revolts against the Tsarist government; these were the 1905 revolution and the March revolution of 1917. The first of these predominantly failed to make any major changes to the government for lack of organisation and coordination of the Tsarist regime’s opponents and the persistently loyal attitude of the armed forces towards The Tsar. The March 1917 revolution, however, resulted in major political revolution and a brand new government due to the impact of the First World War and social and economic discontent within Russian society. The attitudes of the regime’s Liberal opposition greatly varied from 1905 in 1917, and this also played a significant part in pressuring the Tsar Nicholas II to abdicate.…

According to a study generated by IBISWorld on the Annual Global Airline industry revenue for 2014, figures were indicated at $745bn with over 9,000 businesses worldwide. From such figures we can infer that global competition in this industry is inevitably high. Such competition is present and can be seen in examples like existing Airline companies such as Etihad and Emirates which offer similar services, packages and prices to its customers. What can be noticed however with the Airline industry is that the threat of new entrants is quite low - this is in large part due to the fact that the Airline business involves a billion dollar investment and high capital (Porter, 2008). It is also a service which although used frequently, in one customer’s life-time; the extent of use may vary depending on many situational factors such as seasonality, business or leisure purposes and so forth. In Australia, the same notion holds in terms of new entrants to the marketplace. Major players in the Australian Airline network include Qantas, Virgin and Jetstar.…

For this first response paper the chapter that I have chose from the textbook was Chapter 14 Substance Use and Gambling Disorders. I chose this chapter because addiction and addictive behavior are something that I have been around and exposed to throughout my life. Also, even though I knew some things it’s always good to learn more about anything. The chapter happened to give some examples of how drugs have ruined the lives of celebrities, one of which was Whitney Houston. However, that chapter spoke mostly about the various types of drugs, or things that can trigger an addiction in someone like gambling, and the range of addiction that people have.…
