1. Explain how key social, cultural, and artistic contributions contribute to historical changes.
Artwork found on the walls of caves and in the rubble of ancient cities, have opened the doorway to greatly, new, and improved developments, over time.
Culture is the values and behaviors shared by a group of people. Culture has been expressed through artwork for centuries. It has paved the way for a better way of living and surviving. The ancient writings and drawings was the eye into culture. We could see and learn how humans lived day to day, what were their religious beliefs and practices, and how talented they were in art and technology. These discoveries led to great economic change. Some of the changes that came about were individuality, women’s rights, indoor plumbing, and the right to bear arms, electric lighting, mathematics, and dance. Economic expansion, agricultural innovations, and the development of cities and trade, are, also, some of the things that led to economic change. These things have had a big impact on social, cultural, and artistic expression. These things have helped us to live, easier, in today’s society. Every human being has the right to enjoy and develop a cultural life and identity.
2. Explain the importance of situating a society’s cultural and artistic expressions within a historical context.
It’s important because you can’t understand the present without understanding the past. Artwork is a basis for analysis and interpretation of the human condition. It’s important to study the mood, time period, events, attitudes, and conditions, of that time period, when the event

occurred. Placing artistic and cultural expressions in a historical context would be accurate. Art and culture changed the world to what it is today.
3. Examine the influences of intellectual, religious, political, and socio-economic forces on social, cultural, and artistic expressions.
Some of the intellectual, religious, political, and socio-economic influences on culture, social, and artistic expressions are the advancement of science, the Harlem Renaissance, meals on holidays, dancing, liberalism, populism, and, and conservatism, political artwork that sends a message, modernism, agriculture, decision-making, jumping the broom, motor skills, visual arts, and the Northern renaissance. Previously, isolated people are being brought together, voluntarily, by the increasing integration of markets, the emergence of new regional political alliances, and remarkable advances in telecommunications, biotechnology, and transportation, that have prompted unprecedented demographic shifts.
4. Identify major historical developments in world cultures during the eras of antiquity to the Renaissance.
Some of the major, historical, developments that made an impact on society were The Emancipation proclamation, and desegregation. The Emancipation Proclamation was an order issued and put into effect, by President Abraham Lincoln, on January 1, 1863. It ordered the freedom of slaves. Citizenship was granted to the African Americans, along with the right to vote.
Although, blacks were free, they were still living in a segregated society. The years 1955-1968, was the Civil Rights Movement, which led to the outlawing of racial discrimination.

African Americans performed sit-ins, boycotts, and marches until the signing, by President Johnson, of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It banned the discrimination of race, color, religion, sex, and nationality, in employment and public places. Many were killed during those times.
5. Use technology and information resources to research issues in the study of world cultures.
Some issues in world culture have been minority rights, religion, how the mind works and the physical body, and gender roles. Gender roles has been an issue still talked about in today’s society. As the world advances in technology, so does the human mind, and freedom of will. Women are starting to take on some of the roles of men, in society. One big question has been should women be allowed to do the things men do, or should they stay in their natural places.
Ladies & Gentlemen. Survey & Report, Some may believe that being “gentleman” or a “lady” in today’s society is an outdated notion, but others may disagree. (1) Briefly summarize the main characteristics of a well-rounded person, “l’uomo universal,” referring to specific sections within the excerpt from The Courtier which identifies these characteristics.
Some of the main characteristics of a well- rounded person are courtesy, discretion, magnificence on occasion, liberal, elegance or class, fine dress, modesty, kindness, ability to manage, well mannered, and knowledgeable. If a person possessed these qualities then, he or she was considered to be worthy and of sound mind.

(2) Create a “survey” based on the identified characteristics and “poll” at least ten people to find out whether or not the characteristics are relevant for a “gentleman” or “lady” of today.

(3) Tabulate and discuss the responses in terms of gender, age, vocation, etc. of your survey participants, making note of any interesting or surprising results which show up in your poll answers.
I surveyed two older men, two younger men, three older women, and three older women. The women, all, agreed that a man should possess all the characteristics of being a gentleman. The women said they don’t mind a man’s point of view, as long as, he respects hers. However, the older women don’t feel they should do jobs that are considered to be a man’s job. They do feel it fair that they work within reason. The younger women didn’t seem to mind any job, as long as, they know how and are capable, they’ll do it. Women feel the men should be spontaneous, and do things on the spur of the moment to show their appreciation. Most of the guys felt it was relevant, but don’t think too many men are putting much effort into it. Most, men are envious to a woman’s intelligence or knowledge, but 9 out of 10 said they would rather have a smart woman. She must know something to survive, if something were to happen to her fellow. The men of both age groups said they don’t want a dumb woman. (4) Finally, explain whether or not you agree with the characteristics expressed by Castiglione in The Courtier.
I agree with Castiglione, except, I, also, feel that a woman should not be held back from her talents or curiosities, if she is knowledgeable in certain areas, just because of her gender. Believe it or not, some women’s talent surpasses the men’s in some areas that are considered to be a man’s area of expertise. However, I feel a woman should stay in her place. I feel that a

woman should take care of home and that could mean work, as well. Some women have to do everything on their own because they do not have a husband. So to be knowledgeable is to survive. To be kind and gentle is what attracts decent gentlemen to you. A lady of this stature does not have to try hard to keep interest flowing. I, also, believe a man does not have to be classy to be a gentleman. He just has to be polite and courteous. A respectful, sympathetic man can go far with the ladies.
