Nkrumah was an iconic figure of Africa and hero to many Ghanaians. Nkrumah's ambitious, forceful, decisive, independent, and strong-willed personality has impacted my athletic life as well as becoming a good Christian young man. Kwame Nkrumah's personality can be described as aggressive and confident. Nkrumah was comfortable in high pressure environments. In addition to Nkrumah's strong personality, his forward-looking and desire for success cultivated Nkrumah into the pioneer that Africa remember him for. On the subject of Nkrumah's personality, here is a quote from Nkrumah's book, I Speak for Freedom, that shows his goal orientated mind and desire for success: "Divided we are weak; united, Africa could become one of the greatest forces for good in the world. The Europeans robbed Africa of its vast riches and inflicted unimaginable pain and suffering on the African people. In Ghana, then British West Africa, the British robbed Ghana's cocoa beans and gold. Kwame Nkrumah's bravery and help from God was the motivating force behind the movement for independence of Ghana. Olaudah Equiano was born in 1745, in now what is known as Nigeria, but back then was known as the region inhabited by the Igbo people. He was one of 7 children, the youngest of 6 boys, and he also had one younger sister. Source 1, Equiano’s autobiography, “The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano or Gustavus Vassa the African”, which tells the story of how he was kidnapped at a young age, possibly 11, from the Igbo village of Essaka in the region of Benin, where he had grown up. From here he endured the Middle Passage to the “New World”, where he was forced to into slave labour. In the video, The Literary Realism Movement narrated by Katherine Godin, Realism is defined as “a style and type of writing that emerged during a specific time period in the country’s literary history, when writers sought to portray life as it really was.” During the 1800’s, Africans were treated inhumanly, and beaten like animals. White people only saw blacks as less, and treated them very cruel. Though these races lived in the same country, they both had completely different ideas of their “American Dream.” In Olaudah Equiano’s story, The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, he writes about the miserable journey to America, being forced to work as a slave for the white men, and the “American Dream” every slave lived.…

While reading about Equiano Olaudah and what he had been through really helped me understand how strong and smart he was, and in the end he represented Africans and make them proud because back then I’m sure it was hard for Africans to show people/whites who they are and what they are capable of, and Equiano showed people that Africans are more than just slaves. He represented Africans by his desire for freedom while he was in slavery, also his desire to educate himself while he was in slavery, another way he really represents the Africans is with his identity.…
