Rage Against The Machine - Wake Up

Come on!
Uggh!

Come on, although ya try to discredit
Ya still never edit
The needle, I'll thread it
Radically poetic
Standin' with the fury that they had in '66
And like E-Double I'm mad
Still knee-deep in the system's shit
Hoover, he was a body remover
I'll give ya a dose
But it'll never come close
To the rage built up inside of me
Fist in the air, in the land of hypocrisy

Movements come and movements go
Leaders speak, movements cease
When their heads are flown
'Cause all these punks
Got bullets in their heads
Departments of police, the judges, the feds
Networks at work, keepin' people calm
You know they went after King
When he spoke out on Vietnam
He turned the power to the have-nots
And then came the shot

Yeah!
Yeah, back in this...
Wit' poetry, my mind I flex
Flip like Wilson, vocals never lackin' dat finesse
Whadda I got to, whadda I got to do to wake ya up
To shake ya up, to break the structure up
'Cause blood still flows in the gutter
I'm like takin' photos
Mad boy kicks open the shutter
Set the groove
Then stick and move like I was Cassius
Rep the stutter step
Then bomb a left upon the fascists
Yea, the several federal men
Who pulled schemes on the dream
And put it to an end
Ya better beware
Of retribution with mind war
20/20 visions and murals with metaphors
Networks at work, keepin' people calm
Ya know they murdered X
And tried to blame it on Islam
He turned the power to the have-nots
And then came the shot

Uggh!
What was the price on his head?
What was the price on his head!

I think I heard a shot
I think I heard a shot
I think I heard a shot
I think I heard a shot
I think I heard a shot
I think I heard, I think I heard a shot

'He may be a real contender for this position should he abandon his supposed obediance to white liberal doctrine of non-violence...and embrace black nationalism'

The Smiths do their groceries every weekend. These are elaborately planned with Mrs. Smith making a list of requirements for the entire family over the week. She never forgets to replenish their stock of Caribbean coffee as her husband, a writer, generally feels groggy and sleepy after lunch in the afternoon. The coffee keeps him awake at such times. Fruits are a “must-buy” for the family. Everyone including their three children loves apples. However, Mrs. Smith refrains from buying apples when they are not in season as they tend to be more expensive. This weekend, she bought a new brand of pasta that her children insisted on buying as they were tempted by its commercial that comes on TV everyday at dinnertime. She also bought a packet of cocoa powder even though it was not on the list. She realized she needed it as she was attending chocolate-making classes. She has a weakness for milk chocolates and cannot resist the temptation to buy them. The Smiths don’t have a strict budget for these shopping trips. More often than not, Mrs. Smith relies on her memory to keep a tab on their expenditure. What matters most to them is that everyone in the family should get what they want.…

Affably the best female gymnast was Larisa Latynina from the Soviet Union. She earned one bronze, one silver, and four golds at the 1956 Games in Melbourne, Australia. One of the four golds came from her floor routine that she and her competition performed on carpet covered concrete instead of springboard, which is more commonly used for gymnastics floor events. Throughout the next eight years she added twelve medals to her collection with at least one per event. Latynina ended with eighteen medals; nine golds, five silvers, and four bronzes. She is the most decorated Olympian of all time. Latynina’s name is on the file of athletes who have won nine or more golds. She just so happens to be the only female on the list. With everything happening in Ukraine it’s almost hard not to talk about it or look up everyday to see what is the new current news. I came upon a 30 minute documentary by Vice that provided an inside look at the horrific nature of events happening in Kiev. Last month Vice editor and photographer Henry Langston spent time on the front lines with protestors during a period of escalated violence due to a controversial law that criminalized unauthorized protesting. The result of this is the shocking documentary, Ukraine Burning. I will be discussing what I saw, the injustice people have to suffer through and events occurring.…
