Kerry Phelan Case Study
Kerry Phelan is an Australian interior designer, and currently the director of Kerry Phelan Design Offices (KPDO). Prior to establishing her own design practice, she was the co-founder of Hecker Phelan & Guthrie.
Throughout over 20 years of experience, Kerry’s work has included luxury residential, hospitality and retail projects located throughout Australia, Asia and the USA. Some of the standout projects she worked on include: the Beresford Hotel, Establishment and Ivy in Sydney, and more recently, the Tung Fat residential building in Hong Kong.
Her work is rich in natural materials, clean lines, crisp simplicity and although she doesn’t have a signature style, she is highly driven by the ‘brief’ to give her clients something unique and that is distinctly their own.

The design is based around the traditional bistros in France with features of timber panelling and mouldings with the richness and warmth of French oak timber surrounded in natural lighting and feature pendant lights. The whimsical grass green colour is a major part of the design which spans through all Guillaume restaurants against a predominantly black and white backdrop. This bistro is a good example of how Kerry creates interiors that don’t need a complete overhaul after a few years.
Kerry Phelan is continuing to influence 21st century style in a significant way. While she designs beautiful, creative and venerated spaces, it’s the considered planning and rigorous detail are necessary in a Kerry Phelan design to ensure the design will stay relevant and well-loved for longer than a standard fit out. It is now her mission to create design with much more than the average five to six years of wear and to alert us all about the waste in

The chef-selected amuse bouche and the roasted duck with fruit aspic make excellent meal starters. Some of Les Sens’ specialty entrées include the grilled pork with foie gras and truffle terrine with spicy red wine sauce, the herb butter baked oysters, lobster and abalone and the oxtail stew sesame dumplings, all of which are simply inspired.…

Before doing this research task I had little insight of what graphic design was, let alone known what the word typography meant. Looking through photos of Gemma’s art left me startled. Not only because of the bold colours and the precision of the letters but the thought of all of the time and effort that had been put into beautiful pieces of…

Irish born and trained large animal veterinarian, Quinn O’Laughlin, has a secret. He has developed a loyal and wealthy clientele who trust him with the wellbeing of their best friends and equine partners in the small but international horse community of Wellington, Florida. Since his arrival in the United States from Dublin, Quinn has not been truthful with them. While he is on the cutting edge of veterinary medicine, it is his other gifts that are most useful. His equine patients aren’t spilling the beans that it is Quinn’s healing hands and his mind-to-mind communication skills that are his greatest talents. Quinn knows that the suspicious, sometimes superstitious, and über-careful horse owners might take that particular ability askance…

The Design Rangers ' mission is to build strong communities through human-centered design for clients in need. Situated in the second year of operation, the measurable goal for the Design Rangers is ambitious yet realistic. Although only fifteen commissioned design projects are needed to break even (five per community design center), the goal is to complete thirty client projects each year, which would generate $74,500 in excess revenue for early-year cash flow needs. The scale of the projects may vary from modest refurbishing or space planning and reconfiguration to more substantial renovation. Centering on the values of human-centered design, which enrolls the users in the process, and environmentally friendly results, which minimize negative impact, the Design Rangers have the overarching goal of solving two related problems: 1. For reasons both economic and cultural, many small, nonprofit, or otherwise lean organizations do not seek professional design services, resulting in building and spaces for their clients that lack desirable environmental, organizational, and aesthetic conditions. 2. Human-centered design empowers users at all levels to participate in design decisions that affect them directly. These are the highlights of the nine sections in the plan: 1. Service description. The Design Rangers are a triad of community design centers to be housed…

In contrast to this list of good design, thirty years later, Nigel Bents proposed a manifesto in the form of pictures that demonstrate what bad design looks like as 'an example for all to see and none to emulate'. Being that Bents, a lecturer at Chelsea College of Art and Design and at Kingston School of Art and Design, is a professional in the graphic design industry he is in a position to specify what bad design is 'to the…
