Kenny Chesney's Song Don 'T Blink'
“Don’t blink” by Kenny Chesney is about living life to the fullest and making every moment count. Life goes by fast and if you just blink time will go by quicker than you think. The song first starts out with the lyrics “I turned on the evening news, saw a old man being interviewed, turning a hundred and two today, asked him what's the secret to life”. With these lyrics, Kenny Chesney is saying that instead of naming events about life he would change, the man talks about not blinking. By the phrase not blinking, he means that you should always live your life and never let anything hold you back. It is important to be proud of the life you have lived so far, and not wish to go back and change anything. By saying “cause when your hourglass runs …show more content…
Everyone wanted to hear how this man managed to live life this long and reach the age of one hundred and two. Also relating to life now, many people are always watching tv or on their phones, not focusing on being social and living life. People sometimes will care more about what is on their phone than spending time with friends or family. This song represents the message that time is valuable and our time living this life should be spent with people that could be gone at any moment. Since you don’t know how long you are going to live or what events could happen, it is important to live your life to the fullest extent and have no regrets. In the line "Best start putting first things first”, an idiom is found in the phrase first things first. This relates to the theme of the song because the lyrics are saying to always put the most important components of life first if you haven’t started yet. Another literary device can be found with the words “I was glued to my Tv” which represent another idiom. This device relates to the theme because it shows that people want to know the strategies to living life

In the first part of the song he’s just singing that they say stay in your lane boy, and they think this thing is a highway. These lyrics mean that the music industry is telling him that he needs to stay in his lane and do what they say, but that this is a fast paced world and he can do whatever he wants. In the second part of the song they say “We’d have a tempo change every other time change cause our minds change on what we think is good.” This part of the song is talking about how if he was able to write and make the music exactly like he wants it that he would change it up and do it the way he likes because the music industry and their thoughts on what they think is good usually changes all the time. Whats in one day is out the next.…

Because of this the sobering reality of realizing that one must stay within certain boundaries of reality or get assimilated by society. It’s problematic when one cog in a machine does not function as the rest of them do, so one simply replaces that. It is an allegory for death so that when you die you may not be missed workload wise because someone will be there to take your place, and while seeming cold and mechanical it really stresses the inherent value to live everyday to the fullest. If the eventuality is death and since one does not know if there is anything after that, one should be able to be strange within the confines of social protocol and enjoy their life before it invariably…

The above metaphor appears in an amazing poem written by Sylvia Plath. It relates something everyone does everyday, blinking, and turns it into something so sorrowful and thoughtful and deep. When reading this poem, "Mad Girl's Love Song," I get a glimpse of the immensely troubled yet astounding life that Plath led. Although she only had one book, The Bell Jar, published during her short life, she has had 10 more books published posthumously and dozens of books published containing her poetry, including her first poem written at age eight and a half. I consider her the author that has contributed the most to literature. I often wonder how much more she could've written if she hadn't ended her life so soon.…
