Katniss Everdeen: What Makes A Good Leader?
What separates the average person from someone who leads? Many can agree that a great leader is someone who leads by example, makes sacrifices, and someone who can be trusted in any situation. These are all traits that a great leader needs in order to have those around him to follow diligently.

Leading by example should be done through actions and not only words. For example, George Washington during Valley Forge stayed with his troops during one of the harshest winters in 1777 with very limited food, shelter and clothing. He could have stayed in a better part of the camp, but he chose to deal with the same problems his men did. This was said to boost moral and earn him a great deal of respect from those around him. Another example of someone who leads by example would be Michael Jordan who played for the Chicago Bulls, he was one of the hardest workers on his team and encouraged those around him to be the

This can explain why Christianity is the leading religion with over 2.1 billion members. Katniss Everdeen, although a fictional character, is another great example of a leader who makes sacrifices because in the books she lead people of the strict rule of the Capitol. One of the first sacrifices the reader sees her make is when she was placed in the Hunger Games instead of her sister. Only those who are brave are the ones being seen making sacrifices like this. The last example of a leader who makes sacrifices would be Harriet Tubman who risked her life over 13 times by freeing slaves and taking them through the well known “Underground Railroad”. Her intentions were not for selfish reasons, she simply wanted to help those who were slaves. The world would be a better place if everyone made sacrifices for the good of others. These sacrifices have the one thing in common which is that they were made for the purpose of doing what is right even when there are obstacles in the

There are many different characteristics that make a person a true leader. Odysseus is a fictional character from a fantasy epic poem known as “The Odyssey.” He traveled on a twenty year journey with many men along with him but in the end all of his men perished; Odysseus can be classified as a leader and a hero along with a man named Ernest Shackleton. Shackleton is a real life man who went on an expedition to reach Antarctica in the years 1914 to 1916. He also had a whole crew with him for the journey and he saved all of them. "Great leaders don't set out to be a leader... They set out to make a difference. It's never about the role - always about the goal." This quote is by Lisa Haisha, a lady identified as one of Hollywood’s famous head counselors and humanitarians. The aspects of a leader varies by opinion, but one could compare the virtues of confidence, charisma, determination, and inspiration to be used as bases.…

For example, when I am supervising a project, I respect the rights of others and understand my role to guide not micromanage. I try to check in with my coworkers to ensure their work is on track and to know the status of their project. This allows me to see what kind of work everyone is capable of doing on their own. I have also found that leading by example is important because people are willing to work harder especially if they find a manager doing the same work. For example Last year after a record snow storm I helped to transport volunteers for senior snow shoveling program. Even though it was not my project I understood certain things had to get done. Helped to convey volunteers from one side of the city to other…

My Grandfather, George Washington, and Mark Messier are all outstanding leaders. They all put others before themselves and looked at the greater picture in all cases. They all knew that for the life they wanted they would have to work with others and sometimes do things they did not want to do. In addition to this, all these people worked hard, and that is a major quality in being a great leader. Sitting back and relaxing, was not going to be enough. They had to bust their butts to get where they are and be the people they wanted to be. If my grandfather did not work as hard as he did, he would still be living in a little shack, where the bathroom was actually in the kitchen. If George Washington did work like he did, this country wouldn’t be where it is today, and if Mark Messier did not work in practices and games, his skill would have needed got where it need to be. Lastly, these three people all led by example. They did and showed what had to be done, so their followers would want to be just like them. There are so many other words that could be used to describe these people for example, inspiring, honest, confident, committed, and creative, but hardworking, leading by example and putting others in front of themselves, stood out to me as great ones, that each of these people highlighted traits…

Ever since, I never hesitated to speak up and defend my opinion. Another example of when I was a leader was often I would go to an after-school program and watch over the kids. I would have to have the kids learn the work but entertain them at the same time. What made me a leader in these situations was that I wanted these kids to do better and learn the following information but all they wanted was to play and run around. I had to motivate and influence these kids to do what I said not because it was going to better me but for they can be better students. With patience and motivation I made sure every day that the kid wanted to learn instead of being forced. Leaders don’t only think about themselves when they have a vision but think of everyone. This is what I consider a leader; one who realizes there is an issue and is brave enough to stand up for their belief.…

Leading by example can be used for both pure and not so pure motives, to suppress or liberate, which is why people should be very careful in the people they model themselves after. Even subconsciously, people often shape their behavior around people they feel deserve to be modeled after, but sometimes they make the wrong decision. Reality or fiction? Just take a glance at a history book and you’ll see why, for most of the human race, leading by example is a definite…
