Kant's Deontological Moral Theory
What comes to my mind when I think of someone who can be moral, but with the right attentions but wrong actions Is Eric Braden known as Victor Newman on the Young and Restless. His character is ruthless at times but, with great attentions. On any occasion or means, Newman always did what he thought was best to protect his family and company “Newman Enterprises,” that he build from ground up.

One of the the moral actions was when Newman tried to frame his own flesh and blood son for murder. His reasoning for this was because his son Adam had signed offer his half of the Newman’s company to his wife Skye. Victor was furious about this action of his son, he always wanted his company shared by his blood family, not outsiders. After Adam and his wife Skye got in a disagreement she called Victor to help her escape for freedom, to start a new life without her husband Adam. That is when Victor came up with the plan to frame his son for a murder that was already committed by someone else.

Kant's theory is an example of a deontological moral theory–according to these theories, the rightness or wrongness of actions does not depend on their consequences but on whether they fulfill our duty. Kant believed that there was a supreme principle of morality,

His agenda was to get his sons share of the company back into the hands of the original Newman’s. Him and his son Adam was like enemy’s at times because he was rebellious when it came down to Victor being controlling or choices on business matters. Victor had high principles for his family and company. No matter what it took to keep things in perspective for his family and company, he stood by his responsibilities as duties. In this mixer of actions was lying and back stabbing but, even though his motive was moral it had perspective and purpose. This was a Categorical Imperative, that he gained from it to get those shares back into the Newman’s

On the four deontological systems that we have discussed, I would like to share my thoughts about the Kantian Deontological System. Kantian Ethics is formulated by Immanuel Kant in which he discussed that the nature of duty is based on human reason. For him, human reason, not human nature, can determine what is right and wrong. He also stressed that human desires are not the right measurement for ethics. In addition, Kantian Ethics is known for its two kinds of command or imperative: the hypothetical and categorical imperative. According to Immanuel Kant, hypothetical imperative has conditions and has no value. We do a certain action or decision because we are waiting for something in return or because we are afraid of punishment. On the other…

You get a perspective of Victor’s disengagement with social life in the pursuit of him satisfying his urge to gain intelligence in the field of procreation when Victor said, “The summer months passed while I was thus engaged, heart and soul, in one pursuit,” (Volume 1, Chapter 3). Another example of Caroline’s death being the psychological cause of Victor’s behavior is when Victor commits to getting revenge on the creature after the creature kills his wife Elizabeth. Victor did everything in his power to prevent the death of Elizabeth because his mom’s final wishes on her death bed were for Victor to marry Elizabeth. I think that if Victor’s mom did not make that request and did not die prematurely, then most likely Victor would not have unconsciously pursued his own…

His entire mood and aura changes: “Employed in the most detestable occupation, immersed in a solitude where nothing could for an instant call my attention from the actual sense in which I was engaged, my spirits became unequal; I grew restless and nervous” (120). His mood is changing and he can sense a familiar uneasy feeling of sickness growing in his stomach. His experiment continues, and deep down he understands how unethical his experiment must be: “I looked towards its completion with a tremulous and eager hope, which I dared not trust myself to question, but which was intermixed with obscure forebodings of evil, that made my heart sicken in my bosom” (120). He senses how wrong creating this creature is, and how much evil it could very likely bring. Victor is caught in a hard place and is faced with making an ethical decision. He must create a monster for the greater good of saving the people from the monster going on a depressed rage, even though he understands how much it will destroy his overall mental and physical state. This is eerily similar to what we must face on a daily basis, as we must often times make decisions regardless of the impact it has on…

Throughout the novel Victor lost hope on numerous occasions but he repeatedly achieved it back and never gave up even in the toughest of times. His determination and triumphant success helped to keep Victor humble at heart.
