Junior Seau Death Essay

Sudden shock rapidly spread throughout the football community as the news was released that former NFL linebacker, Junior Seau was found dead. Seau's death was not, however, caused naturally. Junior Seau, the man who led his team to their first NFL appearance and the man that was loved by the community took his own life. The suicide of the NFL star led to the immediate question: why would such a loved man end his life?. National Institutes of Health in Washington was chosen by the Seau family to oversee the research being done to find answers to the traumatizing questions. As research was proceeding one of the most obvious conclusions was that Junior Seau suffered from CTE. CTE is a progressive disease associated with repeated head trauma ("Doctors: Junior Seau's brain had CTE" n.p.). Suffering from CTE led to the incapability for Junior Seau to think logically. In an interview Gina Seau stated "It's important that we take steps to help these players. We certainly don't want to see anything like this happen again to any of our athletes." ("Doctors: Junior Seau's brain had CTE" n.p.). Unfortunately, the Seau family is not the only family that has had to handle the devastating loss of a loved one due to brain injuries from many years of football. Jason M. "Researchers in Bedford Mass have now examined the brain tissue of 128 football players who, before their deaths, played the game professionally, semi-professionally, in college or in high school. The information above shows that brain injury is not a small issue, but it is a huge issue! NFL players are in danger because of too much helmet to helmet collision and this has led to deaths and depression.
