JOT CASE STUDY
JOT CASE STUDY
Our Management Team has conducted an in-depth comprehensive review of various issues currently being faced by the management of Jot and to make recommendations. We have carried out an in-depth review of the operations and segmented our recommendations under the broad heads of Operational, Financial and Strategic Issues. We have used various management tools such as SWOC Analysis, PEST Analysis, DMUU, Long-Term Planning using 8Q Planning tools to assist in our analysis.
Operational Challenges-
a) Quality Issues in Spaceship toy- As a good corporate citizen and to avoid tarnishing of brand image, we recommend complete voluntary recall of product at all chains. Design protocols should be reiterated to avoid such incidents in future.
b) Delay in Delivery of Product by Gull- We recommend proactively keeping the customers informed of the current supply crisis, allocate the “restricted” supply to the “large” customers and thereafter balance, if any, to the smaller customers. Recourse to legal action against Gull and indemnifying the customers for all losses suffered as a result is also recommended as part of good Corporate Governance.
c) Information Technology- To keep pace with the growth, it is recommended to hire a full time IT expert and invest in a sound ERP system which enables real time inventory control and invoicing, in-depth profitability analysis at product and geography level, CAD-CAM, intelligent systems such as CRM, Competition benchmarking.
Financial Issues-
a) Working Capital Management- To overcome the current working capital crisis, JOT should endeavor to move to JIT based inventory system, evaluate direct shipping to customers wherever possible to reduce inventory levels and reduce debtors by offering prompt payment discount of 1% or look into bill discounting model.
b) Fixed Capital Management- Make a public issue of 20000 shares at a premium of €12 per share to raise € 0.24 mln on which no dividend should be paid for initial 3

I recommend increasing the size of the operation. In order to be able to increase the sales and returns within this sector, there needs to be capital investment. I agree with the outlook, the firm should invest $250,000,000 initially and could increase it to $300,000,000 in the following 5-7 years, with a decrease to $100,000,000 a year at that time. This will generate $200 million to $300 million for the business, at the end of the investment period. Although this will be a lot of upfront investment, the huge increase in profitability will be worth the money spent. Increasing the size of this sector of the business is a good move for the company, which will provide them with a significant amount of returns.…

I recently left a position at a small Early Childhood Education center in the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The school consisted of children ranging in age of 6 weeks to 6 years. I worked there for eleven years in a variety of age groups. Most of my experience was in Preschool, with children who were three and four years old. The school was located in Point Park University located in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh, in one of the University’s dorm buildings and took up two floors. Each classroom was between three and four dorm rooms combined in size. The rooms were long and narrow with partial walls knocked down and converted into doorways between the rooms. Because of the classrooms being converted from individual dorm rooms to single classrooms, there were many blind spots in the room. There for, each classroom had at least two teachers spread out among the room to be able to see every child and what they were doing at all times. It was very rare that there were only two teachers per class. Many times, the classroom had two teachers, and students from the university enrolled in a work study program helping to work with fifteen to twenty students.…
