Joseph's Dream In Cheaper By The Dozen
For me, one of the most fascinating stories in the Bible is the story of Joseph. God gave Joseph a dream. At first, Joseph didn’t understand what it meant. Oh, he had an idea and he thought he understood, but it took twenty-seven years to see what God’s dream for him really was all about. It was very different from what he first imagined. Joseph was one of twelve brothers in a dynamically dramatic and slightly dysfunctional family—kind of like that movie, Cheaper By The Dozen, only without the comic relief of Steve Martin. Favoritism, jealousy, hatred, and dishonesty colored their world. And what about that dream God gave him? Well, conveniently, it was about eleven stalks of corn (representing his brothers) bowing down to a twelfth stalk of corn. He thought he knew what it meant, but his interpretation was shallow. His view of the dream was self-focused and blurred. …show more content…
I had a dream. It was clearly a God Dream. It was so cool. I’m gonna be important. Really important. I’m gonna be significant. And well basically, ya’ll are gonna end up bowing down to me. You’ll be like, ‘Where would I be without Joseph?’” This didn’t go over very well. It led to betrayal, deception, and a seventeen-year-journey of enslavement, imprisonment, and opposition. Joseph’s story was a story of adventure, but it was also a story of discovery, testing, challenges, and unbelievable promotion. It’s also a story of how Joseph goes through changes that prepare him for living his dream- God’s version of the dream. It’s a story that reminds me how often I need to pray this

Joseph Simmons is a simple man and is both a major and minor character in this book. He is very close knit with Adam’s family and is good friends with Moses Cooper. Adam states, “He was a blacksmith and had shares in a slaver” (Fast 32). The Coopers, at the beginning of the book, also consider Joseph to be a simple minded, heavyset man with high morals. Adam shows this by saying, “The ship the Simmons brothers invested in came in and made them rich, but Joseph broke with them and remained a blacksmith” (Fast 33). Joseph did not want to become wealthy in that way, so he remained hard working because of his high morals.…

Some people have the opportunity and easier access to make the American dream a reality, for others it remains just a dream. A dream that is deferred by many obstacles and such. Larry Hughes poem, a dream deferred describes this situation. In Lorraine Hansberry’s play A Raisin in the Sun, the Younger family each have dreams that they want to fulfill but is disrupted because of family selfishness and family issues. Each character had different dreams of their own. Big Walter, Walter Lee, and Mama Younger and the effects of their dreams on the family’s morale. Hughes uses a metaphor of a raisin to describe neglected hopes and dreams, which in turn is reflected in Hansberry’s exanple of the Younger family and their greed to fulfill the American…

If I had to pick one out of the many stories that we have read and say that it moved me the most, I would have to say that the story would have to be "Battle Royal". The reason that the story did move me so was because of the author's keen use of symbolism, the author portrays a larger meaning than what is initially implied to the reader who does not thoroughly analyze the text.…

Unlike the little convent girl, "Sister Josepha" story gave us more an understanding of whom she was, and whom she would like to be. Sister Josepha was clearly very unhappy. In this one quote, it is very direct how she feels. "it is wicked and sinful, I know, but I am so tired. I can't be happy and sing anymore. It doesn't seem right for le bon Dieu to have me all cooped up here with nothing to see but stray visitors, and always the same old work, teaching those mean little girls to sew, and washing and filling the same old lamps. Pah!" When Sister Josepha said this, it gave us a clear understanding of how she felt. She was very open about her feelings. She obviously does not enjoy her life and would like to become someone new, and enjoy the world that God has given her. That's why when she said doesn't seem right for the good Lord, she feels that her work is not good for him, and that she needs to do something else to make God happy. Sister Josepha then became in love and grew…

Here we have these scriptural bible texts. I will go through with you, about the miraculous way of Jesus's healing, and his stories he would share to make a point, message, or moral. Parables are a simple story used to illustrate moral or spiritual lesson, as told by Jesus in the gospel while meaning not stated it is often obvious. A miracle is an event which the forces of nature-including the natural powers of man-cannot of themselves produce, and which must therefore, be referred to a supernatural agency. Bible miracles, has two different miracles; healing and nature. This essay will talk about two stories, a healing miracle and a parable.…

Have you ever wondered what the Bible says about dreams and dream interpretation? The Bible talks about dreams and visions quite frequently. The two most well-known occurrences would be the stories of Joseph and Daniel. Both Joseph and Daniel interpreted dreams. Were they born with supernatural gifts? Many people have this confused. Some people think that they did have a special gift or talent. Well, maybe we should look to the Bible for this one. In Genesis 40, two prisoners each had dreams and they told Joseph they were worried about their meaning. Joseph then replied, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell me your dreams.” In my opinion, he told them that it is no surprise that they don’t know the meaning of their dreams. Only God know the meaning of their dream. How then did Joseph know the meaning of their dream? Since the Bible actually says, “The interpretations belong to God,” we know that God told Joseph the meaning of their dreams. Joseph was simply the messenger. Now how about Daniel? What was his explanation for being able to interpret these dreams? When king Nebuchadnezzar had a dream he wanted interpreted, Daniel came along. The king asked Daniel if he could interpret. Daniel replied, “No wise man, enchanter, magician or diviner can explain to the king the mystery he has asked about, but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries.” (Daniel 2: 27-28a) This reply is very similar to what Joseph said about interpreting. In Ecclesiastes 5:7 the Bible says, “Much dreaming and many words are meaningless. Therefore fear God.” In Jeremiah, it talks about false prophets and how man cannot on his own interpret dreams. Only the Lord can. In conclusion, the Bible doesn’t say why we get dreams, but it does say that only the Lord can interpret them.…
