Johns-Hopkins University Application Essay Sample
Johns-Hopkins University is a university that I know would allow me to expand on my interests in biology and eventually pursue a career in medicine. Biology has always been my favorite subject for a variety of reasons. The primary reason, however, stems from my 9th grade biology class. My teacher, Coach Smith, encouraged my tendency to question everything and helped teach me more about how biology is the basis for everything I knew about life. The fact that we are constantly finding more about biology excites me as I love the idea of being part of a field that is always changing and expanding. Since that class, I have enjoyed branching out on my own and finding out more about this subject. However, I know that there is much more in this field that I have yet to discover. Because of this, I would love to study biology at Johns Hopkins so I can learn more about this fascinating field and apply what I learn into pursuing a career in medicine. The Kriegar School of Arts and Sciences has a great undergraduate program that allows for students to explore other areas of interest as well. I am particularly interested in the undergraduate research that the many labs at Johns Hopkins offer. …show more content…

Samuel Clemens advised “Go to bed early, get up early-this is wise”, and by appreciating the soundness of his words, rarely, if ever, do I find myself in the chaos of late morning traffic. By accomplishing little everyday small tasks such as getting up early in time for a healthy breakfast or studying in motivating environments allows me to be extremely productive and effective as a student at the Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC). For the past seven months, I’ve held an environmental specialist internship at the Santa Rosa Water Department that goes hand-in-hand with my dedication and efforts at the junior college. Over the past two years, it has been my pleasure to participate in courses and to become a part of the SRJC culture. I am motivated and eager to continue to develop a strong background of calculus, general chemistry, biology and critical thinking, and expanding physics, engineering and organic chemistry. My overarching education goal is to receive a bachelors of science in environmental engineering or hydrologic science. My top three universities of choice are UC Berkley and Cal Poly for their environmental engineering programs and UC Santa Barbara for hydrologic…

My parents, like countless immigrants, relocated my family of five in pursuit of the highly sought after “American Dream.” The excitement quickly wore off once I was confronted with the realization that we will now be residing in a one bedroom, one bathroom basement apartment in Brooklyn, New York. While my parents attempted to provide for my brothers and me, I undertook the task of mastering the English language. In contrast to my classmates, my learning recommenced after school; I spent countless hours reviewing index cards struggling to obtain a grasp of the English language. For added support I attended an English as a second language class, where I received one on one attention. The alienation from the classmates that surpassed me with ease triggered feelings of inadequacy; this only fueled my determination to succeed.…

In considering which path to take in graduate school, I immediately had a flashback to when I would travel with my mother and care for my younger siblings while she worked as a counselor to provide assistance with psychosocial support and mental health care to communities, families and individuals in conflict and post-conflict situations. Having the opportunity to observe her and the organization change so many people’s lives while providing them with hope, planted the seed of nurturing and counseling in my heart. Since middle school I have devoted my time to taking on every opportunity that comes my way to volunteer with helping my community better the lives of our youths.…

In 2011 I had the privilege to attend Camp Eagle the same week as the Dallas Baptist University Worship team. I was able to meet the band members Aaron Zavala, Jordan Patterson, and Jason Deutsch, the bass player. They looked like such a close group, a group I knew I wanted to be a part of. We are naturally drawn to those who share common interests; I play bass for my church, and I had the opportunity to talk to Jason about playing bass guitar and my future. He asked me where I planned to attend college and I could not answer his question, but I had not really thought about it. He started telling me about a few of his experiences at DBU and what an amazing school it had been for him. We ended our conversation with him telling me to continue playing bass because there aren’t enough bass players in the world.…
