Lincoln's bodyguard, John Parker, left Ford's Theatre during intermission to drink at the saloon next door. The now unguarded President sat in his state box in the balcony. Seizing the opportunity, Booth crept up from behind and at about 10:13 pm, aimed at the back of Lincoln's head and fired at point-blank range, mortally wounding the President. Major Henry Rathbone momentarily grappled with Booth, but Booth stabbed him and escaped. After being on the run for 12 days, Booth was tracked down and found on a farm in Virginia, some 70 miles (110 km) south of Washington. After refusing to surrender to Union troops, Booth was killed by Sergeant Boston Corbett on April 26. Doctor Charles Leale, an Army surgeon, found the President unresponsive, barely breathing and with no detectable pulse.…

“The black powder charge exploded and split the bullet towards Lincoln's head...The bullet struck him in the head on the lower left side… and because of the angle of Lincoln's head at the moment of impact, made a dialog tunnel through Lincoln's brain.”(39-41). That was the part of the story where Booth had shot and killed the president. Throughout the whole book their are people who support Booth, hate Booth, and are neutral about Booth. Right after Booth had shot the president and jumped down from the president's box, some of the crowd didn’t do anything, and the other half yelled at him. Only one person was successful at just chasing Booth. Most of the people throughout the book hate Booth because most of the book took place in the North. There was only one part that was Booth vs Nature. It was Booth's most successful hiding place. Booth had broken his leg from the fall from the president's box. This hiding spot let booth rest, but Booth had to sleep on the damp ground which is not pleasant. Throughout the book Booth is just super selfish. He even wrote a letter about his whole group of assassins where if he got caught, then they would also be caught. He thinks of himself as a god while everyone else are just…

Based on evidence in the book I believe John Wilkes Booth was a strong patriot of the South and certainly a zealot. He was not a madman or mentally insane, he was just a very strong supporter of the south. The book describes his motives for killing Lincoln as just pure hatred for the man and his policies. His original plan was to kidnap the president and smuggle him across the Potomac River to the south where they would be able to demand whatever they wanted from the north in exchange for their president. After learning that the north had won the war this ignited Booth to change his plans to black flag warfare. He hoped…

Choosing my topic for National History Day was based on the long debated conspiracy of the reason behind the assassination of the President Lincoln. The majority of the history books written on this event condemned John Wilkes Booth as a national assassin, President killer, but rarely did they expand on why Booth pulled the trigger. I have gone in depth with my research to discover the answer and have produced a conclusion of Booth’s motives which was based on what in that era was called “the higher law”. The higher law in layman’s terms is based off moral and sometimes religious principle rather than follow the human law. It was believed that John Wilkes Booth’s motives might have been inspired by a man of the name John Brown.…

“He publicly announced his support for limited black suffrage in Louisiana” (“Lincoln, Abraham”). Booth disagreed with Lincoln’s support of black suffrage or even abolishing slavery. “This open defiance of conservative opinion could only have strengthened the resolve of one in his audience, John Wilkes Booth” (“Lincoln, Abraham”). Booth did not like that Lincoln was trying to help African-Americans. He would've kidnapped him, but those plans changed.…

Brutus and John Wilkes Booth both commited very dire deeds by killing the leader of their time because they felt they were a tyrant. Coming from very different times, they both had the same motive which was to protect their country from the leader. Both men killed their leaders because they were thinking of their country and they were giving voice to the people who had none. “There is no harm intended to your person, Nor to no Roman else.” As Brutus said, he didn't kill Caesar for his own gain, but he killed for his love of Rome. “For my country I have given up all that makes life sweet and holy, brought misery upon my family, and am sure there is no pardon in the Heaven for me.” Booth knew very well what he was doing. There was no other explanation for their actions. Both men knew what the country that they lived in would turn in to if they left that leader in charge. In their opinion, they were…
