Jo March Character Traits
The character we chose to discuss is Jo March. We were mostly drawn to this young woman, since she has a passionate, stubborn, impulsive, and vivid personality. Jo has little patience and likes to see things go her own way. An example for that we can see when Amy asked her older sisters to join them and Laurie to the theater. As appose to her older sister Meg, who tried to decline her request very nicely, Jo answered impatiently to her sister, "'don't be a baby and whine about it"' (Alcott, 2004, p. 76). When Meg compromised and agreed to take Amy with them, Jo determinately stated, "'If she goes, I shan't'" (77). As it appears in the book, Jo not only declined her sister's request to join them, she did it in a rude and unpleasant way; "Her …show more content…
However, it is very clear that the aggressive and hasty part of her personality dominates her, "Jo had the least self-control, and had hard times trying to curb the fiery spirit which was continually getting her into trouble" (77-78). Jo is very aware to her actions and to the fact her behavior is sometimes wrong. She knows she should act better, but she just can't control her temper and impulsiveness, "Poor Jo tried desperately to be good, but her bosom enemy was always ready to flame up and defeat her, and it took years of patient effort to subdue it" (78). As a result to Jo's actions, Amy vindictively decided to burn Jo's book, which was her pride and joy. When Jo found out about the gruesome fate of her beloved book, she lost her temper and even responded physically, "Jo's hot temper mastered her, and she shook Amy till her teeth chattered in her head, crying in a passion of grief and anger" (79). In addition to the radical physical response, she also stated she will never forgive her sister as long as she lives, "'You wicked, wicked

    Ha's Character Traits

In the novel so far we’ve experienced quite a few of Ha’s personality traits, but one that’s been very prominent throughout the poems we’ve read is how she curious she is. Whether it be her curiosity about her Papaya tree, or about her future, curiosity is definitely a strong trait of hers. For example in the second poem she says, “Maybe soldiers will no longer patrol our neighborhood-”, and then she continues on with her hopes for the future. This seems to show a bit of curiosity because she’s now curious what her future could hold. She’s obviously hoping for the best outcome but she’s aware that may be nearly impossible. Then in the poem about her Papaya tree she says, “Who knows what he’ll (Brother Quang) notice before me?” This shows that…

“Helen Burns represents a christian ideal that Jane admires but does not aspire to. Jane, with her intense awareness of self and her fierce sense of justice, could never adopt Helen’s attitude of resignation and forgiveness,” (Yuen 1). In my opinion, this statement is false because I feel that Jane eventually learns how to forgive and that she will soon start to aspire to be like Helen. For example, when she goes back to her dying aunt, even though the aunt treated her very poorly. “ Love me, then, or hate me, as you will, you have my full and free forgiveness,”(Bronte 257). A statement that I agree with in her essay is, “Through these experiences and vicissitudes Jane’s personality becomes more withdrawn, so that from the solitary child she grows into the quiet, grave young women,”(Yuen 1). I agree with this statement because when Jane was young, she was often shunned and despised by her family, but as she, she became more independent.“ I did not wish either car or carriage to meet me at Millcote. I proposed to walk the distance quietly by myself,”(Bronte 261). This quote shows how she wanted to travel by herself quietly. Through her experiences, she becomes quiet with her thoughts and becomes…

In Gone Girl, to twisted and vindictive Amy Dunn, her actions were simply an attempt of getting justice for her husbands affair. To innocent and chagrined Nick, Amy’s actions were a ludicrous way of getting revenge for his little fling with Andie. In this case, acts of revenge were brought up by personal phenomenon (Nick’s affair), whereas the views on justice are from impartial and impersonal incidents(Amy’s “spectacularly sneaky” production). Justice in literature is typically about closure, whereas revenge is an endless cycle. Amy saw her set-up as justice because it would close, yet ironically reveal, what Nick had done. Nick saw Amy’s actions as revenge because she endlessly kept leading him on a hunt—literally. Revenge and justice will vary within each novel, and each character; however, it can be interpreted in an infinite amount of way by the reader. The reader ultimately decides if what the characters are doing is considered revenge or justice: although the author implies their definite opinion, society will believe what they have always believed in— wether moral or…

In this short story we meet Sister and four members of her family. The Protaganist of the story ia Sister , the oldest child of two girls, and her younger sister Stella-Rondo is the family favorite. It seems everything Sister wants, Stella-Rondo gets. Sister says that Stella-Rondo stole her boyfriend for it was Sister who had been dating Mr. Whitaker first until Stella- Rondo, being the jealous person she was told him that Sister was "one-sided," unequal on both sides. And that in-turn ended the relationship.Sisters real problem is that she is extreamly jelous of Stella-rondo. And she, Sister, at times can be a little selfish. For instance at the end Sister says to herself, "And if Stella-Rondo should come to me this minute, on bended knee, and attempt to explain the incidents of her life with Mr. Whitaker, I'd simply put my fingers in both my ears and refuse to listen" (153). That statement alone defines her jealously and selfishness towards her sister, because it seems Mr. Whitaker is the only thing she is really upset about for she makes no mention about any of the other family members,…
