Jason Cubbard: A Fictional Narrative
Jason Cubbard breathed large puffs against the crisp October air. He sat on a large tree stump that was just on the edge of the forest that was behind his house. For the most part, Jason’s neighborhood was just normal suburbs, but just behind his street was a stretch of forest that went about two miles before hitting the city’s lake, Lake Keno. It was the early morning, and Jason was about to walk to his bus stop for school, but he had, for some reason, decided to walk to this tree stump, and sit for a while. He twirled a stick in the dirt, lost in thought. He thought about how Halloween was coming up and what might his older brother Casey prank him with this year. Jason helped him to his feet. He stood for a moment, but then stumbled back down, and Jason had to support him on his shoulder, “Guys,” their dad trembled, “I...I’m not going to make it.” Jason and Casey looked at each other, then back at their dad. “We’re here, Dad, we’ve got you.” Casey said. “No, you have to get out of here. This thing that's happening, it's serious.” His words were serious, but incredibly sad. “We aren’t leaving you! No matter what, Dad, we won’t!” Jason had started sobbing with these words. But just as he did, they heard the zombie that was at the back door come crashing in. More crashes followed, and it was clear that there was a horde of zombies coming through their house. “Go! Get out of here, go through the woods and get to safety. I’ll stall these zombies as long as I can. I love you boys.” And those were the last words Jason ever heard his father say. Jason and Casey crawled through the broken window and bolted towards the forest. They entered the darkness of the trees, and sprinted through the coverage.     She nonchalantly mentions that the people outside her house were “bitey” and that her husband has been bit. Shaun allows his stepfather to escape with them knowing that he will soon turn into a zombie. They pick up Liz and her roommates who were not particularly happy about Shaun’s plan. While on their way to Winchesters, Shaun and his father have a heart to heart just before he dies. Once Shaun notices his step father’s cloudy eyes, he makes everyone get out of the car and leave on foot. Once they reach the pub, they realize it is surrounded so they decide to act like zombies to get through the crown unnoticed. Their plan would have been successful if Ed would not have answered his cell phone. This infuriates Shaun, who finally snaps on Ed, drawing more attention to them by the surrounding man eating zombies. This is a pivotal moment in the movie for Shaun in whom he realizes that Ed is holding him back and decides to become the hero. Shaun begins to jump up and down while screaming to get the zombie’s attention. Shaun acts as a distraction and leads the mob of zombies away so his friends and family can survive. Once inside, Shaun’s mum confesses to Liz that she has been infected. Shaun returns and they convince him that he has to kill her before she kills them.
