The race that I personally indentify with is African-American or Black. It was easy to relate to this story because both Jane and I are a part of the minority community in America. I could also relate because although I have no immigrated to a different country, as a child I changed schools. The social worker was very competent with handling this case. One thing that stuck out to me was how she knew that a lot of Asian woman commit suicide, so she gave Jane the information on who to contact if feeling that way. Another thing that I learned about the special needs of Asian students is that with the culture of the Korean families, the parents thoughts about education and the pressure that those students have on the. This is why when helping Korean students, the social worker must acknowledge the importance to include the parents in sessions for the counseling to work, since the parents dominant a lot in the lives. Steps that I would take to ensure that I was culturally competent to handle a case would be checking statistics and researching the customs and traditions as the race/cultural of the client that I am going to
