I have a deep interest in the ocean and marine life, which was fostered when my family and I moved to the Pacific Coast. This interest grew further after I went on a backstage tour to the aquarium at the Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo. Due to this continuous exposure to the ocean and the creatures that live there, I am focusing my education around my interest in marine life. It's for this reason that I’m majoring in Marine Biology with a minor in Chemistry. With this education, my goal is to become an Aquarist, and build my way up to becoming an ocean or aquarium diver. As a diver, I want to have the opportunity to study coral reefs, and create and implement conservation plans. In addition, I want to study sea turtles and ways to conserve their declining…

He had two expeditions into the unknown West. His first was to explore to the North of the Mississippi River and to find its head waters. It was a fairly simple mission to explore a part of the land that the Lewis and Clark expedition would have missed. On his travels he met with various tribes and groups. Each one he meet with he promoted peace with. For example the Lakota Indians, from which he bought 1,000 acres of land. For many years the U.S. had friendly relations with this group. When he returned his expedition was considered a success. He was then commissioned to another expedition this one to the Southwest. This expedition had many purposes, but one of the more important tasks was to escort a group of Osage Indians that were prisoners of war.…

The first thing I found out that was interesting was in early 1700’s even people in the United States did a bit of lifeguarding or something like it called the USLA lifeguards. The USLA would patrol the coast lines and they have dories(small lifeboats) that would come out and help people in need of help because of a ship wreck or some other reason. When ships changed to mechanical power wrecks became a very common thing and started increasing (USLA). Later in the late 1800’s ships were starting to built better and wrecks became a uncommon thing. Then swimming became a very common thing in the 1800’s. By 1878 the U.S. Lifesaving service was formed and they later joined the United States Coast Guard. From now on they started guarding the lives of swimmers at beaches.…
