Island In The Truman Show
As Andrew ventured around the globe looking for a new land to call home this uninhabited, tropical island came to mind. This island paradise is seen as the equivalent to “Seahaven” the fictional island in The Truman Show, a perfect paradise where everyone could get along and live wholesome lives (The Truman Show). While Animus’ size is not really known, it takes about three weeks walking, a week driving, to get from one end of the island to the other, keeping in mind the geological features in the way. Animus’ location and topography was strategically used in the development of this incredible island nation creating the foundation for a strong tourism based industry as well as rich soil to supply its people with a surplus of crops. Each county has its own set of goods which differ from region to region. This is due to the differences in climate, location, and topography as you move around the island. In More’s utopian society the Island supplies all of its goods itself, becoming self reliant and, “responsible for cultivating the soil, raising livestock, felling timber, and transporting it to the towns” (More 51). More’s idea in Utopia of a self-reliant society helped us when sculpting the perfect society that could get on by itself in times of trouble. Each county contains a central hospital, government meeting houses, centers for the poor, and tourist centers. These counties contain roughly 100,000 or more citizens each. In no particular order of wealth or importance, the five counties are Adorea (meaning courage), Vivace (meaning vivacious), Omeka (meaning Bravery), Merkki (meaning character), and Nzeru (meaning intellect). The titles of each of these special counties were derived from the definition of the word, and name of our dear nation, ‘Animus’ , carefully thought out by Animus’ first …show more content…
Adorea is highly mountainous and often much colder than the rest of the island (on an average around 60 degrees at lower altitudes) offering enjoyable skiing conditions in higher altitudes. The main mountain range is nicknamed ‘The Heights’ towering far above the rest of the island with the incredible views. In this mountain range is the city of “Rocky” designed in similar layout to the United States’ New York City. In the lower countryside you can see an abundance of family owned vineyards filled with several species of grapes and olives contributing to a high export of wine, grape juice, and oils out of their main port city of “Raye” located near the small “Herronn Bay” adjacent to the pacific ocean. Herronn Bay is enclosed by two rocky islands one that holds a lighthouse and the other that supports a stronghold of ocean-oriented life like seals and seabirds. Adorea is also known for its success in growing cold weather crops such as broccoli, lettuce, and spinach. A beautiful county in Animus, the Adorean people welcome an abundance of tourists from around the globe to offer an incredible cold-weather

The book The Island at the Center of the World by Russell Shorto was very interesting and gave me a different view on history. I felt the story that was told was very intriguing but it did get confusing at times. There were parts in the book where he would discuss an important person like Adriaen Van der Donck for example in one chapter then he would jump to a new person in the next chapter and then Van der Donck would be mentioned again two chapters later. This was hard to follow because he would jump from person to person and mention many dates that it was hard to keep up with what he was saying. However, regarding his argument that Manhattan is what started America he does an excellent job at proving this. One example of this is “…in…

I didn’t think we’d ever get this raft finished, Charles thought. He sat on it cross-legged and stared down into the water of the pond. His friend, Pete, stood on the bank and watched him. It was calm and blue as the sky. “So,” Pete shouted, “Are you ever coming back” “No,” Charles called. “I’m staying here all night.” Pete laughed. he always laughed. “All night.” He had had his turn already, so it was mine now, Charles thought. He was in no hurry. They had worked on this raft for all summer and it was good to have it done, although it wasn’t really done, since it was kind of tipping to one side. Pete started throwing rocks near Charles. Charles knew he wasn’t trying to hit him but just to play around so he ignored him. Charles had learned…

Many things in life are said to be true or false by the viewpoint of the individual. They may be pre-determined due to religious beliefs or may be by the way they were taught by observations throughout their life. In 1998, director Peter Weir released his film, The Truman Show, which revolves around a non-fictional character within a fictional world. In The Truman Show, Truman, which is portrayed by Jim Carrey, lives in a normal world, or so he thinks. Truman was born into a reality TV show. From the moment that he was born, his life has been televised. Everyone in his world from his mom and dad, to even his wife and best friend, are actors. The set takes place in a super-sized dome right above the Hollywood Hills. The creator of this world,…

The film The Truman Show follows a man who believes he is living normally, yet his life is being filmed without his knowledge, and everything he does or sees is controlled by Christof, the Director of the television show. Many people follow a religion in which a god or goddess dictates nearly every aspect of the world, which is not different to the role of Christof. In many countries like America its citizens are told that they have freedom, yet many laws limit and restrict people’s lives, similar to how Truman’s is controlled. Humans have no decision as to where they are born or who raises them, and if environment shapes a person and their beliefs, then people ultimately have no choice over what they believe and who they are; exactly how Christof decided who Truman would be by controlling his life. The 1998 film The Truman Show exemplifies that an artificial life and real life are not significantly different and everyone’s lives are controlled in some way or another by a force that is not them.…
