Is Okonkwo Sympathetic
Okonkwo have many hardships with his family but through those hardship lies his sympathetic side. Okonkwo’s family relationships make him a sympathetic character because he rules his household with a heavy hand, that means he wants the best for them. Okonkwo rules with a heavy hand and doesn't let anything side.Okonkwo hardships make it hard to see his relationship between Nwoye his son and Ekuefi his wife. In my essay i'm going explain why he has a sympathetic side by explaining, and his relationship between Nwoye and Ekuefi. “Okonkwo first son, Nwoye, was then twelve old but was already causing his father great anxiety for his incipient laziness,”pg 13/ 14 paragraph 2. Okonkwo is worried that he will turn out to be like his father. Which to him is a fear and cares too much for his family to turn into a mess up in the village. “At any rate, that was how it looked to his father, and sought to correct him by constant nagging and beating”,pg 13/14, paragrah 2/1. If okonkwo did not care or had a sympathetic side he won't be beating or caring for his son not to be a screw up like his father. This all sums up that okonkwo behind all those hardship and setback lays a sympathetic person who care so much about his family. he beats his family and rules with a heavy hand because he cares for his family. And he cares for then enough for them not to turn into his father and a disgrace to his family and a village. He doesn't do all of this because he is a cruel man, he does it because he cares.
