Is John Proctor A Good or Bad Person?
John Proctor, in The Crucible, was considered a god-fearing man, self-sufficient, strong-minded, and had a good reputation. But in Salem, he was accused of witchcraft. If he "confessed" to it, he would be permitted to life, but if he did not, he would be hanged. Proctor took his penalty without confessing to the courts. In the, he dies by his own will believing he is doing the right thing.
I believe that John Proctor is a good person for the reasons that he made a selfless move by not confessing to lies to bring others down in the village to be clear of the accusations, he sacrificed his freedom to be honest about his affair with Abigail, and by the statements he made.
During the trials John faced lots of test to test his faith to God but also his fellow friend of the village. For example before the decision to hang him he was given the chance to confess seeing Rebecca Nurse and others take part in witchcraft and he decided not to. This easily shows how Proctor is a good person because of his selfless act by not taking part of the unlawfulness of trials and by also basically willingly giving up is life for others but furthermore for the sanity of his self by being honest and not putting anymore false fault on anyone.
Another example of why John is clearly a good person because of the things that he says. A lot of times Proctor was seen to be saying things that are taken controversial but in all reality he was speaking the truth. “I say- I say- God is dead!” This quote is unassumingly saying that if the town and the people can believe that he, John Proctor, and many other innocent people could be a part of such hypocrisy against their belief than God doesn’t exist in Salem. That quote alone shows how level-headed Proctor really is.
Not only was he intelligent and selfless, he was also honest. In The Crucible Proctor was battling with his demon of adultery that was

I think the best case scenario for John Proctor is he is a man and for a long time his wife was sick, and could’nt give him what he desired so their love grew apart and he had to look elsewhere and he did’nt have to look very far and he looked toward his maid Abigale Williams for she was attracted to him and it made the whole incedent all the more harder to refuse and and then he realized the mistake he had made as his wife was getting better she shunned Abigale from her household, but Abby did’nt go quietly and she is still trying to minipulate John into leaving his wifeand it was making her more minipulative because she knew he would not leave his wife without somekind of “Brain Washing”. And that is how I think John Proctor is a very good, and honest man because he saw his mistake although it was to late he did’nt run from the problem or give into temptation he faced it like a strong man and starred it down in the face and dealt with the problem from it’s source.…

First, John Proctor was well-respected in many ways. One reason is how he was well-respected by the people in the community and how he respects them because he doesn’t speak upon anyone else’s sins nor their name. An example from the book is when John Proctor said “I speak my own sins, I cannot judge another. I have no tongue for it.” (131.) He feels that he doesn’t need to speak upon anyone else’s mistakes or accuse them of doing witchcraft. John Proctor is also well-respected because he is a hard-working man who is very independent and values honesty.…

For many reasons, John Proctor is an honest man. By no means is Proctor afraid to tell what is on his mind. In the beginning John truthfully tells Parris why he has not be at church recently, "I have trouble enough without I come five mile to hear him preach only hellfire and bloody damnation. Take it to heart, Mr. Parris. There are many others who stay away from church these days because hardly ever mention God any more." John realizes that he must confess his sin of…

Proctors strengths consist of, honesty and pride. For example, proctor waits till the very last minute to reveal Abigail is lying. Because, the people of Salem will find out about the affair, this would weaken his reputation. Lust and pride were John Proctors tragic flaws, lust is of course, one out of the seven sins. Proctor shows tons of pride towards his name. “Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another!” (Miller, 1232). Proctor refuses to ruin his name with a lie, therefore, causes him to hang and die.…

John Proctor is a very dynamic character who has an internal conflict between being righteous and falling into temptation. This character is very unique because he changes his personality throughout the story. I like John Proctor because he is a symbol of the common man because most men fall into temptation at one point in their lives. We all try to do well but we are all sinners and we need to learn from our mistakes. I can relate to this character because I to have fallen into temptation but turn to God to guide me and direct me in the right path.…

John Proctor has the first characteristic that is needed to be a tragic hero; having a noble status. Even though John Proctor isn’t very rich, and wasn’t born into a wealthy family, he is still a noble person. His economical status isn’t bad as he has his own fair share of land, he is able to provide for his family, and his social status is also good because he is respected in his…

In the play, John Proctor is an ordinary farmer, who has proven himself a hardworking man, with a good name around the village of Salem. John is the type of man who often says what he believes and he does what his heart tells him to. In his past he has done a lot of good and bad deeds, but he is a human and humans do make mistakes for example, he had committed the crime of lechery with Abigail Williams. Abigail used to work at his house as a servant for him and his wife Elizabeth Proctor. Abigail is a two-faced 18 year old who causes a lot of mischief and she is in love with John and will do anything to separate him and his wife, just to take her place. John clearly regrets the mistake he had made in his life, and does his best to pick himself up and attempts to change things in his life. He is a smart man who is somewhat foolish, because from what I have observed, John puts more importance on the present than he does on the future. He is a kind man who is loyal to his wife and friends; he even blackens his own name for the sake of their lives. He is devoted to stop the hangings, and save the people who are accused.…

John Proctor is easily identified as The Crucible’s protagonist. Proctor was a stand-up man who spoke his mind. His name was synonymous with honour and integrity within the community. Proctor took pleasure in exposing hypocrisy in the town and he was respected for it; most importantly he respected himself. That was up until Proctor had made his biggest mistake; all it took was one shameful encounter to destroy Proctor’s most prized possession – his self-respect.…
