Thank you for your informative and detailed post. In regards to proper compensation for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN), proper documentation and accurate coding will be important (Fant & Theiss, 2015). Professional coders may perform coding to ICD-10 in larger practices, however, in smaller practices ARNPs and physicians will be doing the coding (Nicoletti, 2015). ICD-10 codes are more numerous and detailed than the ICD-9 codes (Fant & Theiss, 2015). Providers will have access to a code index and coding tools to assist them in choosing the proper codes (Fant & Theiss, 2015). ARNPs will also typically use a subset of the codes on a regular basis (Fant & Theiss, 2015). ARNPs can concentrate on becoming familiar with the codes…

As an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN), we must be able to screen and diagnose appropriately. Understanding the difference and the purposes they serve are imperative. According to PubMed Health (2016), screening should be done prior to the patient being ill to detect the disease process at an early stage. Diagnostic test determines the exact cause of the symptoms. I believe as an APRN there are many factors to consider prior to screening a patient for a particular disease. These factors include age, ethnicity, personal and family history, cost and geographical location to name a few. Knowing current evidenced-based screening practices should also be a key consideration. For these reasons, I do not believe screening for a specific disease…

In addition, since a dress room associate is always standing in place while other employees have to move around in the store, it is easier for the associate to report any loss by calling Loss Prevention- a department responsible for any kind of losses- If she finds clothes missing from customers, or price tags that can be taken off light weight items in the dressing rooms, these are some signs of lost merchandise.…

The pre-writing strategy that I used for my informative essay is listing. I found this strategy effective because it allowed me to list my task from the begging to the end of my shift. By using this strategy it ensured I would not leave any of my tasks out of my paper. One thing I would do differently is give a brief description of the type of clients I worked with. I would also give a history on the program I worked for.…

Elizabeth, I enjoyed reading your post. Concluding your discussion with the statement that as health care providers we must remove our biases before seeing a patient is also important concept when receiving or giving shift change reports. Nurses must learn to not let their own personal values, attitudes, and biases of a patient negatively affect or influence the care they provide (Giger, 2013, p. 31). These shift change reports should only include information that is pertinent and vital to improving or providing the appropriate care for the patient. Many times I have been told that a patient is mean, uncooperative, pain-seekers, or mentally unstable and I have found the opposite to be true. Nurses need to provide information and facts…

One of the most prominent aspects of nurses’ lives that are detrimentally impacted by working 12-hour shifts is their sleep. Research shows that extended work schedules and sustained shift work, such as that seen in 12-hour shifts, can interfere with nurses’ abilities to achieve adequate sleep by reducing the number of hours for physical and cognitive recovery and the number of hours that can be devoted to sleeping between shifts (Geiger-Brown et al., 2011; Geiger-Brown et al., 2012). Geiger-Brown et al. (2012) found that on average nurses working consecutive 12-hour shifts were sleeping less than six hours per night and were experiencing progressive increases in their reported…
