"Inequality For All"
In the movie “Inequality For All” (2013) Robert Reich explains how the middle and upper class gap is going to keep increasing unless something is changed. Reich’s thesis, summed up, is “The richer get richer and the poor get poorer.” He supports this thesis with factual evidence, statistics, charts, and examples from history. The purpose of this article is to educate people on the status of our social system and classes. The audience is most likely the middle and lower class citizens who are affected by this, and the author uses a semiformal tone throughout the movie. If the economy continues in the direction it is currently going in, with a middle class that is constantly shrinking, the United States as a whole will collapse. You may think this is an exaggeration but it is not, it may not happen in my lifetime or your lifetime but it is a threat for the future of the United States. The lower class will eventually be the ninetynine percent, and upper class the one percent. The country is already ruled by the upper class, with a middle class of about thirtyfive percent, however if that thirtyfive percent, who barely have a voice already, disappeared then how much of a voice would the lower class have? The answer is none, we would be the “silent majority”. As of 2014 the average American has no voice as just a person, we have to band together, protest, and march just to be heard. This is not how a democratic country is supposed to be; we aren’t even a democracy anymore if you ask me, yes we vote for our

presidents and representatives, but once they get elected they forget everything they said they would do and turn into puppets for the big corporations. I doubt that there is a single politician out there with any integrity whatsoever, and if you have anyone in mind then you should definitely look into his or her campaign promises and who he or she received money from. Americans don't have enough money to spend on

Since the beginning everything has been a power struggle, the ones who possesses the most resources dominated over those with the lesser amount. In this day and age, money reigns over the social class and those without it are struggling against the government who controls the majority of it all.As stated by Dee Dee Myers in her article, “What Class Warfare Really Means,” “the same folks who have seen their incomes and wealth skyrocket in recent decades – would take the biggest hit.” (Myers) With this issue, UTA students are directly affected because the problem of the current financial difficulties is tied to their friends, family, and themselves. The levels of taxes cripples the middle and lower class, keeping them within their social class, and gives them no hope of further succession Here, Myers explains how the higher and lower classes are virtually unaffected, while the working top brackets of the middle class are taxed to no end.Though many say there is not any difference between classes, I believe that the middle class is treated unequally in terms of taxation versus the other class’s because the government’s inability to distribute tax equally amongst the three classes, the boundaries being the gap in income which keep one classing from rising to another, and the nation’s obliviousness in realizing the unevenly distributed money.…

A voice, no matter how small can create the biggest changes. Some of the greatest uprisings in human history have begun with one person or a small group of people simply voicing the shared opinions of the general populace. If we think back to the time of our revolutionary era, we see founding fathers such as Alexander Hamilton and Samuel Adams speaking out and writing against their unjust government. While mostly everybody agreed with the opinions of these men, the stark contrast between men like them and the people was that they were vocal about it. Had it not been for this small group of our Founding Fathers, the war may perhaps have never been started because nobody was brave enough to speak out for their…

In A Fierce Discontent, the assessment is that the middle class is the weakest of the nation’s classes, or more appropriately in a situational predicament. Based on McGerr’s descriptions, it seemed as though the middle class had the toughest situation, with the large working class powered by unions and at times socialist views below them, and the unreachable upper ten with all the wealth and power above them. McGerr notes that the middle class is aware of who they are as a whole and are…

    Audism

Through this online class, I have learned more about Audism. We had many ways of understanding the meaning and how it affects people. In my own time, one book that I read that had excellent variations of Audism is ‘Triumph of the Spirit.’ One person who stuck out like a sore thumb for being guilty of Audism was Jane Spilman. She was quoted saying that the deaf people were not ready for a deaf president but then back peddles and states the interpreter misquoted her. That quote made many people very angry (deaf and hearing, alike) because it shows that Spilman only cared about her career (typical politician) and how she wanted to run Gallaudet. Another example from ‘Triumph’ was the Board of Trustees before the DPN movement. The people who represented Gallaudet were mostly hearing Trustees and did not understand the Deaf Culture. It wasn’t until the DPN movement that the BOT makeup was altered to have deaf people who understood what the students wanted and needed.…
